WCT Latvian Mixed Doubles Curling Cup
The WCT Latvian Mixed Doubles Curling Cup is an annual mixed doubles curling series on the ISS Mixed Doubles World Curling Tour. There are two events held annually, usually held a week apart in April. They take place at the Kērlinga halle in Riga, Latvia. For the 2020–21 curling season, the first event was held in November 2020, while the second event was held in April 2021. For the 2021–22 curling season, the first event was held in November 2021, while the second event was held in April 2022. The purse for both events is €1,000 and the event categorization for both events is 100 (highest calibre is 1000). The event has been held since 2016, making it one of the oldest mixed doubles tour events. The event usually attracts some of the top teams in Europe, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Latvia, the 2020 event was mostly played by Latvian teams. It has been part of the tour since 2017. Petr Dmitrievich Dron (russian: Пётр Дмитриевич Дрон; born 28 August 1985 in Saint Petersburg) is a Russian curler and curling coach. He lives in St. Petersburg. He competed at the 2013 World Curling Championships, and at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He currently coaches the Russian men's junior team. Career Dron has been playing on curling competitions since 1996. He finished the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health. Nationally, Dron won the Federation Cup of Russia (2010–2011), and thrice the Russian Men's Curling Championship (2007, 2011, 2013). He was a member of the Russian team at the 2013 World Men's Curling Championship and at the European Curling Championships in 2012 and 2013. Rainer Schöpp is a German curler and curling coach. He is a former European mixed curling champion. Career Schöpp represented Germany in his junior years at the World Junior Curling Championships, with his best finish at the event in in sixth place. He represented Germany at his first and only world championship in 1988, finishing in sixth place with a 3–6 win–loss record. Andrea Schöpp (born 27 February 1965) is a German curler from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. She lectures part-time in statistics at the University of Munich. Career Schöpp is a two-time World champion ( and ), seven-time European champion (, , , , , , ) and 1992 Winter Olympics champion (demonstration). Schöpp has skipped every team she has played for in international events - except when she plays at the European Mixed Curling Championships, where she usually plays third for her brother, Rainer. Wang Rui (; ; born February 9, 1995 in Harbin) is a Chinese curler. She currently plays third on Team Han Yu, the Chinese National Women's Curling Team. Career Juniors Wang represented China in four Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships, playing second for the team in 2011 and 2012 and third for the team in 2014 and 2015. The team would finish in 4th place in 2011, win a bronze in 2012, and silver in 2014 and 2015.
