WCMC (AM)
WCMC (1230 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an oldies format. Licensed to Wildwood, New Jersey, United States, the station is currently owned by Equity Communications, L.P. Its studios are located on East Black Horse Pike in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township, and its transmitter is located on West 19th Avenue in North Wildwood. WCMC carries the live radio broadcast of the Philadelphia Phillies. Prior to 2010, the station carried an Adult Standards format and featured programming from ABC Radio/Citadel Media's Timeless satellite feed. In 2010, the station began simulcasting sister station WMID. WCMC can be heard clearly as far south as Ocean City, MD, and as far north as Wilmington, DE. AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. However, widespread AM broadcasting was not established until the 1920s, following the development of vacuum tube receivers and transmitters. Timeless was a 24-hour satellite music service of Citadel Media (through Citadel Broadcasting). It has distributed a mix of soft oldies and adult standards to radio stations around the United States. It was a combination of two former formats: gold-based adult contemporary Unforgettable Favorites (also known as "Memories") and adult standards Timeless Classics/Timeless Favorites (originally known as "Stardust"). Since 2007, it was simply known as "Timeless", still using the "Timeless Favorites" branding sparingly. Cumulus Media Networks was an American radio network owned and operated by Cumulus Media. From 2011 until its merger with Westwood One, it controlled many of the radio assets formerly belonging to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), which was broken up in 2007; Cumulus owned the portion of the network that was purchased by Citadel Broadcasting that year.
