History This station started out at 92.1 with 3,000 watts and the letters WTWE and was licensed to Manning, South Carolina. In 1986, WTWE moved to 92.5 and became WHLZ "Wheels 92.5", a country radio station, broadcasting at 100,000 watts while remaining licensed to Manning. WMXZ (95.9 FM, "Mix 95.9") is a radio station licensed to Isle of Palms, South Carolina, United States, serving the South Carolina Lowcountry. The station is owned by the Charleston Radio Group subsidiary of Saga Communications. WMXZ airs an adult top 40 format. The station's studios are located in Charleston (east of the Cooper River) and the transmitter tower is in West Ashley, South Carolina. WAVF (101.7 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Hanahan, South Carolina, and serving the South Carolina Lowcountry and Charleston metropolitan area. It is owned by the Charleston Radio Group subsidiary of Saga Communications and airs an adult hits radio format branded as "Chuck FM." The radio studios and offices are on Clements Ferry Road in Charleston. WAVF has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts, the maximum for non-grandfathered FM stations. WSPO (1390 AM) is an American radio station serving the Charleston, South Carolina, area. This station is under ownership of the Charleston Radio Group subsidiary of Saga Communications. Its studios are located in Charleston (east of the Cooper River) and the transmitter tower is in Charleston as well (west of the Ashley River). History WCSC was the first radio station in Charleston as well as the second oldest in the state of South Carolina. It was started by Fred Jordan and Lewis Burk on May 14, 1930. The station's first studios were in the Francis Marion Hotel. WCSC increased its power from 1 KW to 5 KW on December 14, 1947. WCSC was previously a longtime Top 40 formatted station for more than three decades until 1983 when WCSC flipped from Top 40 to adult contemporary in connection with WSSX's CHR launch. WSSX-FM (95.1 FM, "95SX") is a Top 40 (CHR) radio station located in Charleston, South Carolina. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100 kW. The station is owned by Cumulus Media. Its studios are located in North Charleston and the transmitter tower is located in Mount Pleasant. History 95.1 originally signed on June 2, 1947 as WTMA-FM, the sister to WTMA AM 1250. By the late 1950s, WTMA-FM was simulcasting much of the AM's programming full-time, which was Top 40 by that point. When the FCC started to limit simulcasts of AM and FM stations in the late 1960s, WTMA-FM became WPXI in 1972 with an automated "beautiful music" format. WQPD (100.5 FM, "Q100.5") is a radio station broadcasting a hot adult contemporary format. Licensed to Marion, South Carolina, United States, the station serves the Florence area. Moncks Corner, South Carolina
Moncks Corner is a town in and the county seat of Berkeley County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,885 at the 2010 census. As defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, Moncks Corner is included within the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Settled by indigenous peoples for thousands of years, the area of Moncks Corner was occupied by the historic Edistow people, a sub-tribe of the Cusabo tribes. Its various bands shared a language distinct from that of the major language families in the present-day state: Algonquian, Siouan, and Iroquoian, including Cherokee. Although now extinct as a tribe, Etiwan, Edisto, Cherokee, and Catawba descendants make up the eight families of the Wassamasaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians, a community located between Moncks Corner and Summerville. The 1,500-member tribe were recognized by the state as an Indian Tribe in 2009.
