WFGS
WFGS (103.7 FM, "Froggy 103.7") is a radio station located in Murray, Kentucky licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and owned by Forever Communications. The station airs a country music format. Froggy 103.7 is one of the most listened to radio stations in Western Kentucky and Northwest Tennessee for country music. History The station went on the air as WAAW in 1977, owned by Murray Broadcasting Company. Its format was album oriented rock. In 1988, the station was sold to Jackson Purchase Broadcasting, which changed the call to WBLN ("The Blend") and made the format adult contemporary. After being sold to Forever Communications, 103.7 became a country station with the call sign WFGE on 1997-03-17. WNBS
WNBS (1340 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a News Talk Information format. Licensed to Murray, Kentucky, United States. The station is currently owned by Forever Communications, Inc. and features programming from CBS News Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and Westwood One. History WNBS signed on in July 1948. It is named for Nathan B. Stubblefield, a Murray resident who was a pioneer in early experiments with wireless voice transmissions. In 1957, the station was purchased by C.H. Pulse and Chuck Shuffett of Lebanon. In the late 1950s or 1960s, the station was knocked off the air by an airplane that crashed into the transmission tower in heavy fog. In 1991, Shuffett sold both WNBS and W46BE, the low-powered TV-46, to Keith Stubblefield. However, WNBS went off the air the same year when Stubblefield failed to make payments for the station or its employees. Murray is a home rule-class city in Calloway County, Kentucky, United States. It is the seat of Calloway County and the 19th-largest city in Kentucky. The city's population was 17,741 during the 2010 U.S. census, and its micropolitan area's population is 37,191. Murray is a college town and is the home of Murray State University. The Jackson Purchase, also known as the Purchase Region or simply the Purchase, is a region in the U.S. state of Kentucky bounded by the Mississippi River to the west, the Ohio River to the north, and the Tennessee River to the east. Jackson's Purchase also included all of Tennessee west of the Tennessee River. However, in modern usage the term refers only to the Kentucky portion of the Jackson Purchase. The southern portion is simply called West Tennessee. Murray State University
Murray State University (MSU) is a public university in Murray, Kentucky. In addition to the main campus in Calloway County in southwestern Kentucky, Murray State operates extended campuses offering upper level and graduate courses in Paducah, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, and Henderson. History Murray State University was founded after passage of Senate Bill 14 by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, which created two normal schools in the early 20th century to address the growing demand for professional teachers.
