WBLO (790 AM broadcasting, AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Spanish language Adult Contemporary radio format. City of license, Licensed to Thomasville, North Carolina, it serves the Piedmont Triad. The station is owned by GHB Radio and is leased to Norsan Multimedia. By day, WBLO is powered at 10,000 watts. But to protect other stations on 790 AM, at night it greatly reduces power to 26 watts. Programming is also heard on FM translator W295CE at 106.9 hertz, MHz in Winston-Salem. History The station sign-on, signed on in September 1947, and held the call sign WTNC. It originally ran 1,000 watts, during daytimer, daytime hours only. Buddy Poole and other partners bought WTNC and its WIST-FM, FM station in 1984, and Poole served as general manager for 18 years. WIST-FM is a Regional Mexican outlet serving the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. The GHB Broadcasting station is licensed to Thomasville, North Carolina. The studios and transmitter are co-located in High Point, North Carolina. History The station started in Thomasville, North Carolina as WTNC-FM. During its history, its call letters have included WEYE. At one point, the station played country music during the day and urban contemporary music at night. During the 80s, 98.3, with the call sign WTHP, was one of the first oldies stations in the area. Buddy Poole, one of several partners who bought the station along with WBLO, WTNC in 1984, was general manager from 1984 until 2002, when he bought WSAT in Salisbury, North Carolina, Salisbury. Thomasville, North Carolina
Thomasville is a city in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 27,183 at the 2020 census. The city was once notable for its furniture industry, as were its neighbors High Point and Lexington. This Piedmont Triad community was established in 1852 and hosts the state's oldest festival, "Everybody's Day".
