Christopher Martin, through licensee RCG Media, LLC, and features programming from Westwood One and Premiere Radio Networks. Its studios are in Columbus, the second largest city in Georgia. The station is east of downtown, and its transmitter is outside Fort Mitchell, Alabama. Fort Mitchell is an unincorporated community in Russell County, Alabama, United States. The settlement developed around a garrisoned fort intended to provide defense for the area during the Creek War (1813–14). Aloha Station Trust, LLC was a privately owned trust company that owned radio and television stations previously owned by Clear Channel Communications, forerunner of the modern iHeartMedia. After Clear Channel was acquired by private equity interests in 2007, Clear Channel sold off media outlets to comply with FCC ownership limits that would no longer be grandfathered to them. WBOJ (1270 AM) is a radio station licensed to Columbus, Georgia, serving the Columbus area. The station is currently owned by PMB Broadcasting. History The station started broadcasting October 4, 1947, on 620 kHz at 1 kW daytime only with the call letters WGBA. In the beginning, it simulcast programming of WGBA-FM, which began broadcasting in December 1946. It was the third station in Columbus. By 1950, the station had moved up the dial to 1460 kHz, with 1 kW full-time, displacing station WSAC. The license for 620 was turned back to the FCC. That frequency eventually wound up being used in La Grange, Georgia. By 1954, WGBA was on 1270 kc. with 1 kW daytime only. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system.
