Washington's Birthday Celebration
The Washington's Birthday Celebration (WBCA) is an almost month-long event held each February in Laredo, the seat of Webb County in south Texas, that celebrates the birthday of George Washington. It is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States with approximately 400,000 attendees annually. The celebration consists of various festivals; a Society of Martha Washington Colonial Pageant and Ball, Princess Pocahontas Pageant and Ball, two parades, a carnival, an air show, fireworks, live concerts, "Fun-Fest" at Laredo Community College, and a citywide prom during which many of the Laredo elite dress in Colonial attire. Each year a prominent Laredo man and woman play the roles of George and Martha Washington. Women's Basketball Coaches Association
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association is an association of coaches of women's basketball teams at all levels. The organization was formed in 1981, with the goal of addressing the needs of women's basketball coaches. The mission of the WBCA is: The WBCA provides education for coaches, and promotes the coaching profession with awards for coaches and players. While many of the awards are related to basketball activities, the WBCA recognizes the need for academic as well as athletic excellence and recognizes academic excellence with their Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. WBCA-LP (102.9 FM) is a low power radio station ( LPFM) in Boston, Massachusetts. The station operates as a partnership of the Boston Neighborhood Network and the city of Boston. History In 2013, for the first time in ten years, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) opened applications for LPFM radio licenses to community and civic organizations. The City of Boston applied for the license to provide a source of news and information to Boston residents, including public safety programming and any local or regional emergency information. Boston was granted a license-to-construct permit in 2015 for a new FCC LPFM radio station. Timeshare Because multiple qualified community organizations applied for the one available LPFM license for the Boston market, a sharing agreement was created under FCC guidelines. WBCA (Schenectady, New York)
WBCA was a short-lived commercial FM radio station, licensed to Schenectady, New York. The station, originally W47A, debuted on July 17, 1941, as the first "independent" commercial FM station, since it did not have an associated AM station partner. The call sign was changed to WBCA in 1943. Despite initial optimism that FM band stations would soon supplant the AM band, WBCA ceased operations in 1952 due to financial issues, largely the result of a lack of an audience with FM receivers. History W47A In May 1940, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced the establishment, effective January 1, 1941, of an FM radio band operating on 40 channels spanning 42–50 MHz. WTOF (1110 AM, "Tower of Faith") was an American radio station licensed to serve Bay Minette, Alabama. The station was owned by the Buddy Tucker Association, Inc. It previously aired a Christian radio format including syndicated Christian talk and Christian ministry plus Southern Gospel music. History The beginning This station first began licensed broadcasting on April 16, 1957, under the ownership of the Southwest Alabama Broadcasting Company. The 1,000-watt daytime-only station broadcast on a frequency of 1150 kHz using the callsign WBCA. Faulkner Radio Inc. acquired the station in December 1958. The WBCA callsign was said to stand for "Wonderful Baldwin County Alabama". In 1967, the Federal Communications Commission granted the station a construction permit to change frequencies to the current 1110 kHz and increase broadcast power to 10,000 watts.
