WBAU
WBAU (90.3 FM) was the call sign of the student-operated radio station located at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, east of Midtown Manhattan. The new web-based radio station iPAWS Web Radio. History WBAU was located at 90.3 on the FM dial, which it shared with WHPC, owned by Nassau Community College. Under the original agreement, WHPC owned the frequency from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and WBAU owned it from 5:00 PM until 1:00 AM. From 1:00 AM until 9:00 AM, the two stations switched ownership of the frequency on an "odd–even day" basis, although neither station generally operated between 1:00 and 9:00 AM until 1982, when the agreement was amended to allow WBAU to operate daily between 6:30 and 9:00 AM. André "Doctor Dré" Brown (born December 5, 1963) is an American rapper, radio personality and former MTV VJ. Early life André Brown was born and raised in Westbury, New York, on Long Island. Career In the early 1980s, Doctor Dré was a DJ at WBAU, the radio station of Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. With three other DJs at the station, he formed the "Concept Crew", which began to create its own music. In 1986, they renamed themselves Original Concept, a hip-hop group that released one album on Def Jam Recordings, ''Straight from the Basement of Kooley High'' in 1988, featuring the track was "Pump that Bass." Adario Strange is a New York–based writer, film director, and artist. He is best known for his documentary fil''The NYU Suicides''detailing a year of strange deaths at the famed university. WHPC (90.3 FM) is a non-commercial radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to Garden City, New York. The station is owned and operated by Nassau Community College, and began broadcasting on October 27, 1972. WHPC was nominated for "Best College Radio Station" at the 2019 National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Awards, the only Community College radio station to receive the honor that year. WHPC won three awards at the 2018 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awards: Best On-Air Schedule, Best Sports Report, and Best Training Manual. Original Concept
Original Concept was an American 1980s hip-hop group from Long Island, New York, best known for their single "Can You Feel It". They only made one album and it was notable for the absence of lyrics on many of the tracks. The group are perhaps better known for their production prowess and instrumentals. History In the early 1980s, a group of young men at WBAU FM formed a group called the "Concept Crew". Their show "The Operating Room" was broadcast on Monday nights from Adelphi University on the same station which featured the Spectrum City DJs (Chuck D and Flavor Flav) who later went on to form Public Enemy. The members were Doctor Dré, T-Money, Rapper G, Easy G. By 1986, the group began calling themselves Original Concept and had released their first record, "Knowledge Me" in February of that year.
