WAYX (1230 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a classic rock format. WAYX serves Ware, Pierce and Brantley Counties in Southeast Georgia. WAYX streams at WAYX.com. It formerly aired a news-talk format with Fox Radio News, Georgia Network News and Sports, and the most popular conservative or political talk shows including Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Neal Boortz were featured on the station, plus business talkers Clark Howard and Dave Ramsey, and computer guru and "digital goddess" Kim Komando. Weekend jazz music programming included Legends of Jazz by Ramsey Lewis, and Jazztrax by Art Good. Sports Conversations with Loran Smith and the Regionsbank SEC (Southeastern Conference) football report were carried. The station also partnered with the Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce to provide local event information with its "Community Happenings" and "Community Minute" announcements which aired up to 16 times daily. Waycross, Georgia
Waycross is the county seat of, and only incorporated city in, Ware County in the U.S. state of Georgia. The population was 14,725 at the 2010 Census and dropped to 13,942 in the 2020 census. Waycross includes two historic districts (Downtown Waycross Historic District and Waycross Historic District) and several other properties that are on the National Register of Historic Places, including the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse, Lott Cemetery, the First African Baptist Church and Parsonage, and the Obediah Barber Homestead (which is seven miles south of the city). AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. Ramsey Lewis
Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis Jr. (May 27, 1935 – September 12, 2022) was an American jazz piano, jazz pianist, composer, and radio personality. Lewis recorded over 80 albums and received five RIAA certification, gold records and three Grammy Awards in his career. His album ''The In Crowd (Ramsey Lewis album), The In Crowd'' earned Lewis critical praise and the 1965 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance. His best known singles include "The 'In' Crowd (song), The In Crowd", "Wade in the Water", and "Sun Goddess (song), Sun Goddess".
