W13DQ-D
W13DQ-D, VHF digital channel 13 (virtual channel 45), is a low-powered HSN- affiliated television station licensed to Atlanta, Georgia, United States. History Founded in 1987 on channel 24, the station is owned by Ventana Television, the subsidiary of HSN which is the holding company for its broadcast licenses. In March 2007, the station changed channels and therefore callsigns from W24AL to W23DN, on channel 23+. The station owner applied to the FCC to move to channel 6 for its migration to DTV broadcasting. This digital companion channel, which was given a construction permit in January 2007, had callsign W06CM-D. After being extended by six months in January 2010, the permit expired in mid July, however the FCC approved a "flash cut" to digital on channel 24, which was applied-for in January. By moving back to its former channel, it would have reclaimed its old callsign (but with the digital suffix) as W24AL-D. The move was made possible by WGXA (channel 24) in Macon (the c ...

Very High Frequency
Very high frequency (VHF) is the ITU designation for the range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves ( radio waves) from 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz), with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter. Frequencies immediately below VHF are denoted high frequency (HF), and the next higher frequencies are known as ultra high frequency (UHF). VHF radio waves propagate mainly by line-of-sight, so they are blocked by hills and mountains, although due to refraction they can travel somewhat beyond the visual horizon out to about 160 km (100 miles). Common uses for radio waves in the VHF band are Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and FM radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, two-way land mobile radio systems (emergency, business, private use and military), long range data communication up to several tens of kilometers with radio modems, amateur radio, and marine communications. Air traffic control communications and air navigation systems (e.g. VOR and ILS) wo ...

Digital Television
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of television signals using digital encoding, in contrast to the earlier analog television technology which used analog signals. At the time of its development it was considered an innovative advancement and represented the first significant evolution in television technology since color television in the 1950s. Modern digital television is transmitted in high-definition television (HDTV) with greater resolution than analog TV. It typically uses a widescreen aspect ratio (commonly 16:9) in contrast to the narrower format of analog TV. It makes more economical use of scarce radio spectrum space; it can transmit up to seven channels in the same bandwidth as a single analog channel, and provides many new features that analog television cannot. A transition from analog to digital broadcasting began around 2000. Different digital television broadcasting standards have been adopted in different parts of the world; below are the more widel ...

Broadcast Tower
Radio masts and towers are typically tall structures designed to support antennas for telecommunications and broadcasting, including television. There are two main types: guyed and self-supporting structures. They are among the tallest human-made structures. Masts are often named after the broadcasting organizations that originally built them or currently use them. In the case of a mast radiator or radiating tower, the whole mast or tower is itself the transmitting antenna. Terminology The terms "mast" and "tower" are often used interchangeably. However, in structural engineering terms, a tower is a self-supporting or cantilevered structure, while a mast is held up by stays or guys. Broadcast engineers in the UK use the same terminology. A mast is a ground-based or rooftop structure that supports antennas at a height where they can satisfactorily send or receive radio waves. Typical masts are of steel lattice or tubular steel construction. Masts themselves play no part in ...

WYGA-CD
WYGA-CD, virtual channel 16 ( UHF digital channel 29), is a low-powered, Class A beIN Sports Xtra- affiliated television station licensed to Atlanta, Georgia, United States. The station is owned by HC2 Holdings and licensed to HC2 LPTV Holdings. History Originally granted the callsign W07CP in November 1997, it became W55CR in December 1998, broadcasting on channel 55. The station then was granted the call letters WDAH-CA from January 2004 to July 2005. After a change in ownership, the station changed call letters and became WYGA-CA. In filings with the Federal Communications Commission, WYGA-CA had been forced to cease operations on a full-time basis on its allocated channel 55 due to issues with its transmit site, likely due to MediaFLO subscription mobile TV using the same channel, or nearby W55BM, or both. The station's call sign was changed to the current WYGA-CD on May 27, 2014. In 2009, the FCC required U.S. television stations to vacate channels 52-69, which ...

Co-channel Interference
Co-channel interference or CCI is crosstalk from two different radio transmitters using the same channel. Co-channel interference can be caused by many factors from weather conditions to administrative and design issues. Co-channel interference may be controlled by various radio resource management schemes. Cellular mobile networks In cellular mobile communication (GSM & LTE Systems, for instance), frequency spectrum is a precious resource which is divided into non-overlapping spectrum bands which are assigned to different cells (In cellular communications, a cell refers to the hexagonal/circular area around the base station antenna). However, after certain geographical distance, these frequency bands are re-used, i.e. the same spectrum bands are reassigned to other distant cells. The co-channel interference arises in the cellular mobile networks owing to this phenomenon of frequency reuse. Thus, besides the intended signal from within the cell, signals at the same frequenc ...

TV Market
A media market, broadcast market, media region, designated market area (DMA), television market area, or simply market is a region where the population can receive the same (or similar) television station, television and radio broadcasting, radio station offerings, and may also include other types of media such as newspapers and internet content. They can coincide or overlap with one or more metropolitan areas, though rural regions with few significant population centers can also be designated as markets. Conversely, very large metropolitan areas can sometimes be subdivided into multiple segments. Market regions may overlap, meaning that people residing on the edge of one media market may be able to receive content from other nearby markets. They are widely used in audience measurements, which are compiled in the United States by Nielsen Media Research. Nielsen measures both television and radio audiences since its acquisition of Arbitron, which was completed in September 2013. ...
