Władysław Młynek
Władysław Młynek (6 June 1930 in Gródek – 1 December 1997 in Nawsie) was a Polish teacher, writer and poet from Zaolzie region of Cieszyn Silesia. He was the son of Jan Młynek, a social activist. He attended Polish elementary school in Gródek and later a Polish Gymnasium in Český Těšín where he expressed his interest about the poetry of Adam Mickiewicz. Młynek then worked as a teacher in Polish schools in Zaolzie - in Třinec, Hnojník, Milíkov, Bukovec and at Kamienity hill in the Beskids mountain range. He set up and conducted many choirs in schools where he worked and was an art director of ''Gorol'' men's choir in Jablunkov from 1978 and art director of Gorolski Święto festival from 1983. Hrádek (Frýdek-Místek District)
( pl, , german: Grudek) is a municipality and village in Frýdek-Místek District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,900 inhabitants. Polish minority makes up 30.2% of the population. Etymology The name of the municipality is a diminutive form of the word " gord" (Czech: ''hradiště'', Polish: ''gród''). Geography Hrádek lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia on the Olza River. Western part of the municipality lies in the Jablunkov Furrow, eastern part lies in the Silesian Beskids. History The beginnings of Hrádek can be traced back to the first half of the 12th century, when a small fort was built on a trade route running through the Jablunkov Pass around 1119. A settlement named Jablunkov grew up around the fort. The small fort and the settlement were completely destroyed by the Hungarians in 1447. Kongres Polaków w Republice Czeskiej ( cs, Kongres Poláků v České republice) (meaning "The Congress of Poles in the Czech Republic") is a Polish organization in the Czech Republic. It fulfills two main tasks. It coordinates activities of other Polish organizations in the country, and represents Polish minority in negotiations with the Czech government. Adam Wawrosz
Adam Wawrosz (24 December 1913 – 18 December 1971) was a Polish minority in Zaolzie, Polish poet, writer, and activist from the Zaolzie region of Cieszyn Silesia. He is considered the most important writer of the folk literature of Cieszyn Silesia. He was born in the village of Końska (now part of Třinec) to a tailor's family as the youngest of nine children. His father died in World War I and his mother was left with seven children. After the death of his father Wawrosz was raised in the village of Tyra (Třinec), Tyra, where he also attended local Polish elementary school. Wawrosz later graduated from a course for tailors in Horní Suchá, Sucha Górna, and from a course in puppetry in Stare Troki. After the outbreak of World War II Wawrosz volunteered in the Polish Army and fought in the Independent Operational Group Polesie of general Franciszek Kleeberg in the Battle of Kock (1939), battle of Kock in October 1939. Paweł Kubisz
Paweł Kubisz (12 May 1907 – 19 August 1968) was a Polish poet, writer, journalist, and activist, one of the most important poets from the Zaolzie region of Cieszyn Silesia. Biography Kubisz was born to a poor worker's family in the village of Końska. He attended pedagogic schools in Cieszyn-Bobrek and Ostrzeszów but didn't finish either, the latter due to the poems written about school's pedagogues. Young Kubisz was influenced mostly by the work of Stefan Żeromski and his works about poor masses. As a student he published his works in various press in Poland. Compiled together they were published as his debut poetry collection ''Kajdany i róże'' (Shackles and Roses) in 1927 in Frysztat. On 17 April 1928 he was arrested by Czech authorities in his parents' house in Końska and on 6 November 1928 sentenced for 13 months in jail for alleged transport of illegal literature to Slovakia and conspiring against the Czechoslovak Republic. The Gorals ( pl, Górale; Goral dialect: ''Górole''; sk, Gorali; Cieszyn Silesia dialect, Cieszyn Silesian: ''Gorole''), also known as the Highlanders (in Poland as the Polish Highlanders) are an indigenous ethnographic or ethnic group primarily found in their traditional area of southern Poland, northern Slovakia and in the region of Cieszyn Silesia in the Czech Republic, where they are known as the Silesian Gorals. ''Zwrot'' (meaning "The Term or The Phrase") is the main and largest Polish magazine in the Czech Republic, chief magazine of the Polish minority in Zaolzie. It appears monthly, with a circulation of 1,600 (2019). Polski Związek Kulturalno-Oświatowy (commonly known as PZKO) ( cs, Polský kulturně-osvětový svaz) (meaning "Polish Cultural and Educational Union") is a Polish organization in the Czech Republic. It represents the Polish minority in the Czech Republic together with the Congress of Poles. PZKO is the largest Polish organization with largest membership in the Czech Republic, although the number of members is decreasing as a result of demographic decline of the Polish community. Gorolski Święto
Gorolski Święto (literally ''Goral's Festival'') is an annual international cultural and folklore festival held in Jablunkov, Czech Republic, the first weekend in August. It lasts from Friday to Sunday. It is organized by the Polish Cultural and Educational Union (PZKO) and the folklore group ''Gorol'', and preserves the traditions of the Zaolzie Poles and Silesian Gorals. It is the largest cultural and folklore festival in the Zaolzie area, drawing thousands of spectators each day of festivities. In 2007 almost 20,000 people visited the festival.
