Wynken, Blynken, And Nod
"Wynken, Blynken, and Nod" is a popular poem for children written by American writer and poet Eugene Field and published on March 9, 1889. The original title was "Dutch Lullaby". The poem is a fantasy bed-time story about three children sailing and fishing among the stars from a boat which is a wooden shoe. The names suggest a sleepy child's blinking eyes and nodding head. The spelling of the names, and the "wooden shoe," suggest Dutch language and names, as hinted in the original title. Mabel Landrum Torrey
Mabel Landrum Torrey (June 23, 1886 – April 1, 1974) was an American sculptor best known for her statuettes and sculptures of children. A number of her works were inspired by the poetry of Eugene Field. Early life and education Torrey was born in a sod-roofed house in Sterling, Colorado in 1886. Her father was a local judge. She studied at the Colorado State College of Education where one day an art teacher looked at a bust she was modeling and said, "You are a sculptor." She then worked as a schoolteacher in her hometown of Sterling. Upon saving enough money, however, she traveled to Chicago to study sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 1912. Her teachers there included sculptor Charles Mulligan. ''Sweet America'' was the twelfth studio album by Buffy Sainte-Marie and her last before retiring from music to work on ''Sesame Street'' and in education. The album was dedicated to the American Indian Movement and featured some songs with tribal rhythms and vocals that she was later to develop on her 1992 comeback ''Coincidence and Likely Stories''. Donovan Phillips Leitch (born 10 May 1946), known mononymously as Donovan, is a Scottish musician, songwriter, and record producer.
