Wyk Auf Föhr
(Fering, ''Fering'' North Frisian: ''Wik'', ''a Wik'', or ''Bi a Wik''; da, Vyk på Før) is the only town on Föhr, the second largest of the North Frisian Islands on the Germany, German coast of the North Sea. Like the entire island it belongs to the Districts of Germany, district of Nordfriesland. Wyk includes the two minor town districts of Boldixum and Südstrand. Geography Wyk is situated on the southeastern edge of the island. About 4,500 inhabitants live there, but during the tourist seasons 20,000 or more people will stay there. It serves as a regional centre for the islands of Föhr and Amrum, providing shopping centres, doctors, a post office, etc. and it is the seat of the ''Amt'' Föhr-Amrum and the social care centre for the islands. Hans Christian Andersen ( , ; 2 April 1805 – 4 August 1875) was a Danish author. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, he is best remembered for his literary fairy tales. Whale
Whales are a widely distributed and diverse group of fully aquatic placental marine mammals. As an informal and colloquial grouping, they correspond to large members of the infraorder Cetacea, i.e. all cetaceans apart from dolphins and porpoises. Dolphins and porpoises may be considered whales from a formal, cladistic perspective. Whales, dolphins and porpoises belong to the order Cetartiodactyla, which consists of even-toed ungulates. Their closest non-cetacean living relatives are the hippopotamuses, from which they and other cetaceans diverged about 54 million years ago. Olhörn Lighthouse
Olhörn Lighthouse (german: Leuchtturm Olhörn, also ''Leuchtfeuer Olhörn'' and sometimes ''Leuchtturm Olderhörn'') is a small lighthouse on the German North Sea island of Föhr in Schleswig-Holstein. The lighthouse is located on the southeastern corner of the island of Föhr, inside the town of Wyk auf Föhr in the Nordfriesland district. It is located on a shallow geestland ridge overlooking the southern beach of Wyk. It was erected in 1952 to replace a light beacon from 1892. The tower is tall with a focal height of 10 m above mean high water. It has a near square shape and was built of massive masonry that was encased by reddish brown bricks. On the gallery there is the lantern room made of metal; it is painted white. The automated lighthouse serves as a cross light for navigation in the ''Norderaue'' tidal channel between the mainland port of Dagebüll and the islands of Föhr and Amrum. Tourism is an important economic factor for Germany's northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein.
