Wushu At The 1990 Asian Games ...
Wushu was contested by both men and women at the 1990 Asian Games in Haidian Gymnasium, Beijing, China from September 29 to October 4, 1990. The wushu competition consisted of three events: ''Changquan'', ''Nanquan'' and ''Taijiquan'', for both genders. The changquan combined event consisted of changquan, one long weapon discipline, and one short weapon discipline. The competition attracted 96 competitors from 11 nations. Yuan Wenqing
Yuan Wenqing (; born 1966) is a retired professional wushu taolu athlete from Shanxi, China. Nicknamed 'the prince of wushu,' he was known for his explosive speed and power, and is still widely regarded as one of the greatest wushu practitioners of all time. It is said that in the sport of wushu, the 1970s belonged to Jet Li, the 1980s to Zhao Changjun, and the 1990s to Yuan Wenqing. Career Early career Yuan started practicing wushu at around the age of eight. In 1978, he joined the Shanxi Provincial Wushu Team and began to train under Pang Lin Tai and later Zhang Ling Mei. Rise to stardom In 1982, he won his first national championship gold medal which was in shuangdao. Ng Siu Ching (; born 1968) is a former wushu taolu athlete from Hong Kong. She achieved an extensive medal record in international competition, becoming the first taolu athlete to win five gold medals at the World Wushu Championships. Chen Sitan
Chen Sitan (; born 1967) is a taijiquan practitioner and a retired professional wushu taolu athlete. Career In 1977, Chen was selected to become a member of the Fujian Provincial Wushu Team under Zeng Nailiang. At the 1990 Asian Games, Chen won the first gold medal for China in men's taijiquan. He then went on to become a two-time world champion, doing so at the 1993 and the 1997 World Wushu Championships. He also won the gold medal in taijiquan at the 1997 National Games of China The Eighth National Games of the People’s Republic of China was held in Shanghai from October 12 to 24, 1997. Leung Yat Ho
Leung Yat Ho (; born: 1968) is a former actor and wushu taolu athlete from Hong Kong. He was a two-time world champion in nanquan and was also a triple silver medalist at the Asian Games. Competitive wushu career In 1989, Leung moved to Hong Kong to pursue a career in acting. He continued to seriously train wushu at this time, and won the silver medal in men's nanquan at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing. A year later, he became the first world champion in nanquan at the 1991 World Wushu Championships. Leung then won a bronze medal in the 1993 World Wushu Championships Kuala Lumpur, silver medal in the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, and was once again the world champion at the 1995 World Wushu Championships in Baltimore. While representing the SAR of Hong Kong, he first achieved a silver medal victory in the 1997 World Wushu Championships in Rome.
