Wushu Federation Of The Philippines
The Wushu Federation of the Philippines (WFP) is the official national governing body for Wushu in the Philippines under the International Wushu Federation. The WFP is a regular member of Philippine Olympic Committee as NSA or National Sports Association. In 2008, the WFP was recognized as the "National Sports Association of the Year" by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) due to the impressive achievements of nanquan athlete Willy Wang at the 2007 World Wushu Championships and the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament. In 2016, the federation won the same reward due to the double gold medal victories of sanda athletes Divine Wally and Arnel Mandal at the 2015 World Wushu Championships held in Jakarta, Indonesia as well as the several victories of Daniel Parantac at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games. Wushu (sport)
''Wushu'' (), or ''Kung fu'', is a hard and soft and complete martial art, as well as a full-contact combat sport. It has a long history in reference to Chinese martial arts. It was developed in 1949 in an effort to standardize the practice of traditional Chinese martial arts, yet attempts to structure the various decentralized martial arts traditions date back earlier, when the Central Guoshu Institute was established at Nanking in 1928. "''Wushu''" is the Chinese term for "martial arts" (武 "Wu" = combat or martial, 術 "Shu" = art). In contemporary times, Wushu has become an international sport under the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), which holds the World Wushu Championships every two years. World Wushu Championships
The World Wushu Championships (WWC) is an international sports championship hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) for the sports of wushu taolu and sanda (sanshou). It has been held biennially since 1991 and is the pinnacle event of the IWUF. The World Wushu Championships also coincides with the IWUF Congress as well as with various committee meetings. This competition additionally serves as the qualification event for the Taolu World Cup and the Sanda World Cup.
