Wright State Raiders Men's Basketball
The Wright State Raiders men's basketball is the men's college basketball team that represents Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio. The school's team currently competes in the Horizon League at the NCAA Division I level. The Raiders won their only national championship in 1983 as an NCAA Division II school. They have made a total of four NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament appearances. The Raiders play their home games at the Nutter Center and are led by head coach Scott Nagy. History Wright State first sponsored men's basketball in 1970 under the direction of Coach John Ross. Horizon League
The Horizon League is an 11-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. The conference started with a membership of six teams and has fluctuated in size with 24 different schools as members at different times. The League currently has 11 members. Its most recent membership changes occurred on July 1, 2022 with the departure of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) to the Missouri Valley Conference. Paul Biancardi
Paul Biancardi (born August 11, 1962) is an American recruiting director, basketball analyst and former college basketball coach. Playing career Biancardi attended Pope John XXIII High School and was inducted into the school Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997. He played under Tom Thibodeau at Salem State. Biancardi was voted team captain as a senior and received the “James Twohig Award” for outstanding character, sportsmanship and dedication. In 1985, he graduated with a degree in physical education. Coaching career Biancardi began his coaching career at St. Lazarus eighth-grade CYO team while at Salem State. After graduating, he took a job as an assistant at Salem State. 2012–13 Wright State Raiders Men's Basketball Team
The 2012–13 Wright State Raiders men's basketball team represented Wright State University during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Raiders, led by third year head coach Billy Donlon, played their home games at the Nutter Center and were members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 23–13, 10–6 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for third place. They advanced to the championship game of the Horizon League tournament where they lost to Valparaiso. 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2007 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 65 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball as a culmination of the 2006–07 basketball season. Team selections were announced on March 11, 2007, and the tournament began on March 13, 2007, with the Opening round game and concluded with the championship game on April 2 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. Mid-Continent Conference
The Summit League, or The Summit, is an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic conference with its membership mostly located in the Midwestern United States from Illinois on the East of the Mississippi River to the Dakotas and Nebraska on the West, with additional members in the Western state of Colorado and the Southern state of Oklahoma. Founded as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982, it rebranded as the Mid-Continent Conference in 1989, then again as the Summit League on June 1, 2007. Billy Donlon
William Joseph Donlon (born February 10, 1977) is an American college basketball coach, currently an associate head coach at Clemson University. Playing career Donlon played four years of basketball at UNC Wilmington under Jerry Wainwright, scoring 901 career points and handing out 457 assists. After graduation, Donlon played professionally in France, Germany, and Ireland. Coaching career Donlon started his coaching career with American and St. Peters as an assistant coach before returning to his alma mater to be an assistant coach under Brad Brownell for four seasons. He followed Brownell when he accepted the position at Wright State. When Brownell departed for the head coaching position at Clemson, Donlon was elevated to the head coach of the Raiders.
