The men's freestyle bantamweight competition at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki took place from 20 July to 23 July at Messuhalli. Nations were limited to one competitor. Ferdinand Schmitz
Ferdinand Schmitz (October 14, 1919 – November 6, 1981) was a German wrestler who competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics. In Helsinki he participated in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman bantamweight competitions, eventually withdrawing from the former and finishing sixth in the latter. He had two podium results at the European Championships, placing third in 56 kg Greco-Roman event in 1938 and second in the 61-kg Greco-Roman event in 1939. Edvin Vesterby (born 23 October 1927) is a retired Swedish bantamweight wrestler. He competed at the 1952, 1956 and 1960 in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling and won a Greco-Roman silver medal in 1956. He finished fourth in the freestyle in 1952 and in the Greco-Roman wrestling in 1960. He was born in Riguldi Parish (now Noarootsi Parish), Lääne County, Estonia into a Swedish-speaking family.
