Wrestling At The 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's Greco-Roman Heavyweight
The Greco-Roman heavyweight competition at the 1912 Summer Olympics was part of the Wrestling at the 1912 Summer Olympics, wrestling programme. The competition used a form of double-elimination tournament. Rather than using the brackets that are now standard for double-elimination contests (and which assure that each match is between two competitors with the same number of losses), each wrestler drew a number. Each man would face off against the wrestler with the next number, provided he had not already faced that wrestler and that the wrestler was not from the same nation as him (unless this was necessary to avoid byes). When only three wrestlers remain (the medalists), the double-elimination halts and a special final round is used to determine the order of the medals. Stockholm Olympic Stadium ( sv, Stockholms Olympiastadion), most often called Stockholms stadion or (especially locally) simply Stadion, is a stadium in Stockholm, Sweden. Edward Barrett (Irish Sportsman)
Edward Edmond Barrett (3 November 1877 – 19 March 1932) was a Track and field, track and field athlete, wrestler and hurling, hurler. He was born in Rahela, Ballyduff, County Kerry, Ballyduff, County Kerry, Ireland. Barrett played hurling with the local Ballyduff GAA (Kerry), Ballyduff team. He emigrated to London, joined a local hurling club and was selected for the London GAA team. He was a corner-forward on the London team which won the 1901 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1901 All-Ireland Championship, beating Cork GAA 1–5 to 0–4 in the final. It remains London's only senior All-Ireland hurling Championship title. Barrett also appeared for London in the final of the following year, but this time Cork gained revenge, thrashing London 3–13 to 0–0. He won a gold medal as part of the City of London Police tug-of-war team in the 1908 Olympic Games in London.
