World Of Soccer Cup
The World of Soccer Cup, an association football friendly tournament, took place in the summer of 1977, hosted by Singapore and Australia. Overview The tournament was the idea of English entrepreneur Reg Lambourne, Strata Travel owner Tom Lawrence and Red Star Belgrade FC Secretary General Dr Miroljub Stojkovic and consisted of two competitions. The first (also known as Metro 20th Anniversary Tournament) was a straight knock-out tournament in Singapore, and the second was a mini-league in which the top two teams would play in the final. The first trophy was won by Red Star Belgrade (FK Crvena zvezda) and the second by Celtic F.C., Celtic, and was the last ever trophy Jock Stein would ever lift for Celtic. Association Football
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. The objective of the game is to score more goals than the opposition by moving the ball beyond the goal line into a rectangular framed goal defended by the opposing side. Traditionally, the game has been played over two 45 minute halves, for a total match time of 90 minutes. With an estimated 250 million players active in over 200 countries, it is considered the world's most popular sport. Sydney Sports Ground
The Sydney Sports Ground No. 1 was a Stadium and Dirt track racing venue in Sydney, New South Wales. The ground was located where the car park of the Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) currently sits. The ground had two main grandstands and was surrounded by a grass covered hill, giving it a capacity of more than 35,000. It was demolished along with the smaller No.2 Ground in 1986 to allow the building of the SFS, which opened in 1988. During its lifespan the Sports Ground hosted Rugby league, Rugby Union, Soccer, Motorcycle speedway and Speedway car racing. The Sports Ground was the home ground of NSWRL team, the Eastern Suburbs Roosters, the club playing 500 games at the ground from 1911 until 1986, with a 283-199-18 W-L-D record. Zoran Filipović ( sr-Cyrl, Зоран Филиповић, ; born 6 February 1953) is a Montenegrin former football coach and player, best known for his playing stints with Red Star Belgrade and S.L. Benfica. Club career Filipović, born 6 February 1953, in Titograd, SR Montenegro, FPR Yugoslavia, made his name in Yugoslavia as a potent striker with Red Star Belgrade, during more than ten seasons at the club (5 June 1969 to 29 June 1980). Miloš Šestić (; born 8 August 1956) is a former Yugoslav and Serbian professional footballer who played as a forward. Early life Born in Milosavci, a village near Laktaši (in present-day Republika Srpska, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina), Šestić grew up in Stara Pazova (in present-day Vojvodina, an autonomous province of Serbia), making his first football steps at local club Jedinstvo. Dušan Savić
Dušan "Dule" Savić ( sr-cyr, Душан "Дуле" Савић; born 1 June 1955) is a Serbian former footballer. Club career Savić started playing football in the local side Jedinstvo Ub in his hometown. He arrived for a tryout at Red Star's Marakana Stadium on 21 March 1972, and was promptly included in the club's youth system. Two years later in 1974, he became a first team player. He quickly grew into a feared striker and a fan favourite. At still only 19, he made his national team debut for Yugoslavia. He ended up playing more than 400 official matches for Red Star Belgrade.
