World Shut Your Mouth (TV Series)
''World Shut Your Mouth'' is a hidden camera television series starring Dom Joly. It ran on Friday nights in 2005 on BBC One. Dom Joly made his name on the similar series '' Trigger Happy TV'' on Channel 4, and it was from its great success that he was hired by the BBC to produce new programming. His first effort was an unsuccessful spoof chat show named '' This Is Dom Joly''. The lack of success in conventional comedy prompted him to go back to his hidden camera roots and started to create a new series which was very similar to ''Trigger Happy TV'', with short stunts overlaid with a soundtrack. He was the main participant in these stunts. As with his previous work, the programme had an emphasis on surrealism, with sketches such as a spying gnome and nerds taunting skateboarders. Dominic John Romulus Joly (; born 15 November 1967) is an English comedian and writer. He is best known as the star of ''Trigger Happy TV'' (2000–2003), a hidden camera prank show that was broadcast in over 70 countries worldwide. Early life Dominic John Romulus Joly was born in Beirut on 15 November 1967, to British parents John Joly and his second wife, Yvonne. John Joly, a pilot with the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War, owned banking, insurance, and shipping agency Henry Heald & Co., which was managed, later bought, by Joly's great-grandfather. The family business is now run by Joly's sister. ''World Shut Your Mouth'' is the debut solo album by Julian Cope. Background ''World Shut Your Mouth'' was written during Cope's 1983 retreat to the village of Drayton Bassett (close to his childhood home of Tamworth, Staffordshire, Tamworth), following the breakup of Cope's former band The Teardrop Explodes. Two of the tracks, "Metranil Vavin" and "Pussyface", had in fact been originally intended for The Teardrop Explodes (and different versions of each appear on the belated 1990 release of the band's scrapped third album, ''Everybody Wants to Shag... The Teardrop Explodes''). Although ''World Shut Your Mouth'' generally retained the uptempo pop drive of The Teardrop Explodes, it was also an introspective and surreal work. Julian David Cope (born 21 October 1957) is an English musician and author. He was the singer and songwriter in Liverpool post-punk band the Teardrop Explodes and has followed a solo career since 1983 in addition to working on musical side projects such as Queen Elizabeth, Brain Donor and Black Sheep. Cope is also an author on Neolithic culture, publishing ''The Modern Antiquarian'' in 1998, and a political and cultural activist with a public interest in occultism and paganism.
