World Allround Speed Skating Championships For Women
The International Skating Union has organised the World Allround Speed Skating Championships for Women since 1936. Unofficial championships were held in the years 1933–1935. History Distances used * In the years 1933–1935, three distances were skated: 500 m, 1000 m and 1500 m. * In the years 1936–1955, four distances were skated: 500 m, 1000 m, 3000 m and 5000 m (the '' old combination''). * In the years 1956–1982, four distances were skated: 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m and 3000 m (the '' mini combination''). * Since 1983, four distances are skated: 500 m, 1500 m, 3000 m and 5000 m (the '' small combination''). Ranking systems used * Since 1933, the samalog system has been in use. International Skating Union
The International Skating Union (ISU) is the international governing body for competitive ice skating disciplines, including figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating, and short track speed skating. It was founded in Scheveningen, Netherlands, in July 1892, making it one of the oldest international sport federations. The ISU was formed to establish standardized international rules and regulations for the skating disciplines it governs, and to organize international competitions in these disciplines. Kit Klein
Catherine "Kit" Klein (March 28, 1910 – April 13, 1985) was an American speed skater. Short biography Kit Klein was born in Buffalo, New York and started competing on the local level. Later, Klein finished first in the 1500 metres event and third in the 500 metres competition at the 1932 Winter Olympics of Lake Placid, where speed skating for women was a demonstration sport. She also participated in the 1000 metres event but was eliminated in the heats. She also won the 1,000 m race, as well as the overall bronze medal, at the Unofficial World Allround Championships in Oslo, Norway in 1935. At the 1936 first official World Allround Speed Skating Championships for Women in Stockholm, Sweden, Klein won gold. After the 1936 Winter Olympics, Klein toured Europe before sailing home. Maggi Kvestad
Maggi Kvestad (10 February 1921 – 24 November 2004) was a Norwegian speed skater. Her achievements include winning a bronze medal at the allround world championships. Biography Kvestad won a bronze medal at the World Allround Speed Skating Championships for Women in 1947, behind Verné Lesche and Else Marie Christiansen. She competed at the 1949 World Championships, where she placed 14th. Drammen () is a city and municipality in Viken (county), Viken, Norway. The port and river city of Drammen is centrally located in the south-eastern and most populated part of Norway.
