Workers' Communist League (New Zealand)
The Workers' Communist League of New Zealand (abbreviated WCL) was a political party in New Zealand. During the 1980s the WCL was the second-largest Marxism, Marxist organisation in the country (after the pro-Moscow Socialist Unity Party of New Zealand (SUP)). Whilst relatively small, the organisation played a key role in various social movements. The organisation was noted for its role in the protest movements against tours of the South African rugby union team ''Springboks''. The group was active in the Labour movement, trade union movement, in particular in Wellington. During the 1980s WCL diverged from Leninism, Leninist orthodoxy and embraced feminism and Maori self-determination. 1970 split The WCL traced its roots to a 1970 split in the Communist Party of New Zealand (CPNZ). Victoria University of Wellington ( mi, Te Herenga Waka) is a university in Wellington, New Zealand. It was established in 1897 by Act of Parliament, and was a constituent college of the University of New Zealand. The university is well known for its programmes in law, the humanities, and some scientific disciplines, and offers a broad range of other courses. Entry to all courses at first year is open, and entry to second year in some programmes (e.g. law, criminology, creative writing, architecture, engineering) is restricted. Victoria had the highest average research grade in the New Zealand Government's Performance Based Research Fund exercise in both 2012 and 2018, having been ranked 4th in 2006 and 3rd in 2003. Marxism–Leninism
Marxism–Leninism is a communist ideology which was the main communist movement throughout the 20th century. Developed by the Bolsheviks, it was the state ideology of the Soviet Union, its satellite states in the Eastern Bloc, and various countries in the Non-Aligned Movement and Third World during the Cold War, as well as the Communist International after Bolshevisation. Today, Marxism–Leninism is the ideology of the ruling parties of China, Cuba, Laos and Vietnam (all one-party 'socialist republics'), as well as many other communist parties, while the state ideology of North Korea is derived from Marxism–Leninism.
