The Women's American Football League (WAFL) was a women's American football league that was formed in 2001. After disbanding, the teams merged with the Women's Affiliated Football Conference (WAFC), the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL), Women's Football Association (WFA), and the American Football Women's League (AFWL), itself now disbanded. Women's American Football
Women's gridiron football, more commonly known as women's tackle football, women's American football, women's Canadian football, or simply women's football, is a form of gridiron football (American or Canadian) played by women. Most leagues play by similar rules to the men's game. Women primarily play on a semi-professional or amateur level in the United States. Very few high schools or colleges offer the sport solely for women and girls. However, on occasion, it is permissible for a female player to join the otherwise male team. The Orlando Mayhem is a football team in the Independent Women's Football League based in Orlando, Florida. Home games are played on the campus of East Ridge High School in nearby Clermont. Legends Football League
The Extreme Football League (X League) is an American women's semi-professional tackle football league. The league was originally founded in 2009 as the Lingerie Football League (LFL), and later rebranded as the Legends Football League in 2013. On December 13, 2019, the league announced that it would not be holding a 2020 season and that it had instead restructured under its current name, placing new teams mostly in the same locations as the 2019 LFL season. The X League's 8-team 2022 season began play on June 11, 2022, ending September 11, 2022 with the restructured league's inaugural championship, the X-Cup. Minnesota Vixens
The Minnesota Vixen is a professional women's football team based in the Twin Cities. The team has been known as the Minnesota Vixens and Minneapolis Vixens prior to being known as the Vixen (note lack of "s"). Established in 1999, the Vixen are the longest continuously operating women's American football team in the nation. The team plays full contact, tackle football following NCAA rules. The season is from April to June each year with playoffs in July. In 2014, the Vixen's record was 6-2 with an invite to the inaugural Legacy Bowl in South Carolina. In 2016, the team went undefeated in the regular season winning the IWFL Midwest Division. They then faced the New York Shark for the IWFL Eastern Conference Championship, winning in double overtime and appeared in the IWFL World Championship Game in South Carolina against the Utah Falconz. The Sacramento Sirens are a women's semi-professional American football team, located in Sacramento, California. The team has compiled one of the most successful records in women's full tackle football. History In 2001, their first year of existence, the Sirens won the divisional title and advanced to the playoffs of the Women's American Football League. In 2002 the Sirens took the league title in the championship game against the Arizona Caliente. Joining a larger league in 2003, the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL), the Sirens traveled to New York to capture their second consecutive championship title, beating the New York Sharks. Seattle Warbirds
The Seattle Warbirds were a women's professional American football team based in Seattle, Washington. They were founded by head coach Michael Stuart and general manager Joshua Creel in 2001 in the Women's American Football League. The Warbirds only played in the 2001 WAFL season, finishing 9–0–1 and winning the Pacific Northwest Division title before losing to the Arizona Caliente in the Pacific Conference semifinals. Jacksonville Dixie Blues
The Jacksonville Dixie Blues are a women's American football team based in Jacksonville, Florida. Founded in 2001, they are currently members of the Women's Football Alliance (WFA), playing their home games on the campus of University Christian School. History The Dixie Blues were a former member of the now disbanded Women's American Football League, where they were runners-up in the first championship game in 2001 and won the title in 2002. After the league disbanded, they joined the Women's Football Association; they won the league championship in 2003. The league folded after that single season and the team spent the next two seasons in the Independent Women's Football League.
