Wolf Creek Ski Area (WCSA) is a ski area in southwest Colorado, located on the Wolf Creek Pass between Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Pagosa Springs and South Fork, Colorado, South Fork. It is best known for receiving more average annual snowfall than any other resort in Colorado, at about 430 inches per year. History First site on top of the pass During the 1930s, people were taming the mountains of Colorado by building highways and mountain passes. U.S. Route 160 in Colorado, US Highway 160 was constructed as a new project connecting the San Luis Valley to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Pagosa Springs. Prior to 1936, Cumbres Pass was the only direct route through the mountains in this area, and during heavy snowstorms it often closed. Rio Grande National Forest
Rio Grande National Forest is a 1.86 million-acre (7,530 km²) U.S. National Forest located in southwestern Colorado. The forest encompasses the San Luis Valley, which is the world's largest agricultural alpine valley, as well as one of the world's largest high deserts located around mountains. The Rio Grande rises in the forest, and the Continental Divide runs along most of its western border. The forest lies in parts of nine counties. Weminuche Wilderness
The Weminuche Wilderness is a wilderness area in southwest Colorado managed by the United States Forest Service as part of the San Juan National Forest on the west side of the Continental Divide and the Rio Grande National Forest on the east side of the divide.
