Wisconsin's 96th Assembly District
The 96th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in western Wisconsin, the district comprises all of Crawford County and nearly all of Vernon County, as well as most of the southern half of Monroe County. It includes the cities of Prairie du Chien, Viroqua, and Westby, and the villages of Cashton, Chaseburg, Coon Valley, De Soto, Eastman, Ferryville, Gays Mills, Genoa, Kendall, La Farge, Melvina, Mount Sterling, Norwalk, Oakdale, Soldiers Grove, Wauzeka, and Wilton. It also contains Wildcat Mountain State Park and much of the Fort McCoy U.S. Army installation. The district is represented by Republican Loren Oldenburg, since January 2019. Fort McCoy (Wisconsin)
Fort McCoy is a United States Army Military installation, installation on between Sparta, Wisconsin, Sparta and Tomah, Wisconsin, Tomah, Wisconsin, in Monroe County, Wisconsin, Monroe County. In 1909, there were two separate camps named Camp Emory Upton and Camp Robinson; in 1926, these camps were joined together to form Camp McCoy. Since its creation in 1909, the post has been used primarily as a military training center. A part of Fort McCoy is also used by the Wisconsin State Patrol as a training facility. History The post has been in virtually constant use since it was first formed as the "Sparta Maneuver Tract" on 14,000 acres (57 km2) in 1909. At first, the tract was made up of two camps, Camp Emory Upton and Camp Robinson. Wildcat Mountain State Park
Wildcat Mountain State Park is a state park of Wisconsin, United States, on the Kickapoo River in the Driftless Area. Sandstone bluffs topped with limestone, two of which are Wildcat Mountain and Mount Pisgah, provide views over the narrow valley of the river and its tributaries. The Kickapoo Valley Reserve is immediately adjacent and forms a continuous protected area. Wildcat Mountain State Park is open for year-round recreation including hiking, canoeing, fishing, and cross-country skiing. The park is located in Vernon County near the town of Ontario, Wisconsin. History Wildcat Mountain State Park is in the Kickapoo Valley. Archaeologists have found evidence of human occupation in the area dating back to 2000 BCE. Wauzeka, Wisconsin
Wauzeka is a village in Crawford County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 628 at the 2020 census. The village is located within the Town of Wauzeka near the confluence of the Kickapoo River and Wisconsin River. History The village of Wauzeka was platted in 1856 by Hercules L. Dousman, with an addition in 1857 by local Mexican–American War veteran John McHarg. It was named after a Native American leader whose Ho-Chunk name, , means Pine Tree. The village was connected to the Milwaukee & Mississippi Railroad in 1857 and possessed various sawmills in the nineteenth century to process pine lumber rafted down the Kickapoo River.
