Wisconsin's 5th State Senate District
The 5th Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district is composed of parts of western Milwaukee County, and eastern Waukesha County. It includes the cities of Brookfield, New Berlin, and Wauwatosa, as well as most of the city of West Allis. Current elected officials Rob Hutton is the senator representing the 5th district since January 2023. He previously served eight years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 13th Assembly district from 2013 to 2021. Each Wisconsin State Senate district is composed of three Wisconsin State Assembly districts. The 5th Senate district comprises the 13th, 14th, and 15th Assembly districts. Wisconsin Assembly, District 14
The 14th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district comprises parts of western Milwaukee County. It includes most of the city of Wauwatosa and about half of West Allis. The district is represented by Democrat Robyn Vining, since January 2019. The 14th Assembly district is located within Wisconsin's 5th Senate district, along with the 13th and 15th Assembly districts. History The district was created in the 1972 redistricting act1971 Wisc. Act 304 which first established the numbered district system, replacing the previous system which allocated districts to specific counties. The 14th district was drawn mostly in line with the previous Milwaukee County 9th district, but removed all wards of the city of Glendale and added more wards from the city of Milwaukee, from what had previously been the Milwaukee County 18th district. Montgomery Morrison Cothren
Montgomery Morrison Cothren (September 18, 1819October 27, 1888) was an American lawyer, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He served 18 years as a Wisconsin circuit court judge, and was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate. Biography Montgomery Cothren was born in Jerusalem, New York, in 1819, and, as a child, moved west to the Michigan Territory with his parents. He worked on his father's farm near Kalamazoo until age 19. He had some common school education in New York, but had little formal education in the Michigan Territory. Nevertheless, he studied the legal profession in his free time. At age 19, he went to the lead mining region of the Wisconsin Territory and taught school. He continued to study the law in his free time, and was admitted to the bar in 1843. Iowa County is a county (United States), county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 23,709. Its county seat and largest city is Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Dodgeville. When created, it was part of the Michigan Territory. Wisconsin's 5th Congressional District
Wisconsin's 5th congressional district is a congressional district of the United States House of Representatives in Wisconsin, covering most of Milwaukee's northern and western suburbs. It presently covers all of Washington and Jefferson counties, most of Waukesha County, and portions of Dodge, Milwaukee and Walworth counties. It is currently represented by Republican Scott Fitzgerald. This was historically the most Republican district in Wisconsin, but as suburban areas have moved left, while rural and areas of industrial workers have moved right, the 7th and 8th have surpassed the 5th. However, this district remains solidly Republican for the time being. George W. Bush carried the district in 2004 with 63% of the vote. The 5th District was the only district in Wisconsin that John McCain won in 2008, giving 57.73% of the vote to McCain and 41.28% to Barack Obama.
