Wisconsin's 44th Assembly District
The 44th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southern Wisconsin, the district comprises most of the city of Janesville, in central Rock County. It contains the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater at Rock County campus and the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport. The district is represented by Democrat Sue Conley, since January 2021. The 44th Assembly district is located within Wisconsin's 15th Senate district, along with the 43rd and 45th Assembly districts. History The district was created in the 1972 redistricting act1971 Wisc. Act 304 which first established the numbered district system, replacing the previous system which allocated districts to specific counties. Debra Ann "Deb" Kolste (''née'' Babl; born June 20, 1953) is an American business owner and politician. A Democrat, she was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2013 to 2021, representing the Janesville-based 44th assembly district. Early life and career Debra Kolste was born in the small city of O'Neill, Nebraska. She was co-valedictorian on her graduation from Kimball County High School. She went on to study at the University of Nebraska and received her bachelor's degree in medical technology in 1975. She and her husband, Rex, a medical doctor, moved to Colby, Kansas, where they started a medical clinic. In 1984, they purchased a grain farm in Colby, which Kolste still owns and operates. In 1994, they sold their clinic in Colby and moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, where they both were employed by Mercy Health. Delmar E. DeLong (June 7, 1931 – June 30, 1999) was an American lawyer, Wisconsin State Representative and farmer. Born in Beloit, Wisconsin, DeLong served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He received his bachelor's degree and law degrees from University of Wisconsin–Madison.
