William Fox (producer)
Wilhelm Fried Fuchs ( hu, Fried Vilmos; January 1, 1879 – May 8, 1952), commonly and better known as William Fox, was a Hungarian-American film industry executive who founded the Fox Film Corporation in 1915 and the Fox West Coast Theatres chain in the 1920s. Although he lost control of his film businesses in 1930, his name was used by 20th Century Fox (now ''20th Century Studios'') and continues to be used in the trademarks of the present-day Fox Corporation, including the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox News, Fox Sports and Foxtel. Early life Fox was born in Tolcsva, Hungary, and originally named Wilhelm Fried Fuchs. His parents, Michael Fuchs and Anna Fried, were both Hungarian Jews. The family immigrated to the United States when William was nine months old and settled in New York City, where they had twelve more children, of whom only six survived. Ben Deeley (January 22, 1878 - September 23, 1924) born J. Bernard Deeley also credited as Ben Deely, was an American actor and composer. Biography Born in 1878, Deeley appeared in silent films, never having lived to the talkie era. He composed a popular ragtime song called ''The Kleptomaniac Rag'' in 1913. His best known performance in films is the strange powdered character Mr. Jones in Maurice Tourneur's ''Victory'' alongside Lon Chaney, Jack Holt, and Wallace Beery. He was at one time married to Marie Wayne, who costarred with him in ''The Patchwork Girl of Oz'' (1914), and to actress Barbara La Marr. Deeley died of double pneumonia. Tom O'Brien (July 25, 1890 – June 8, 1947) was an American silent and sound character actor known for his burly serio-comic roles. He worked in the comedy film ''The Gentleman from America'' (1923) as Johnny Day, which is about the humorous tale of two American buddies (O'Brien and Hoot Gibson) and they have numerous adventures in Spain. Tom O'Brien appeared in over 80 films in a 22 years of career. He was primarily cast as stocky "Irish types" in comic supporting roles. He also worked in ''The Big Parade'' (1925) as Corporal Bull O'Hara. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale.
