Wingman
A wingman (or wingmate) is a pilot or UAV who supports another pilot in a potentially dangerous flying environment. ''Wingman'' was originally the plane flying beside and slightly behind the lead plane in an aircraft formation. According to the U.S. Air Force, The traditional military definition of a "Wingman" refers to the pattern in which fighter jets fly. There is always a lead aircraft and another which flies off the right wing of and behind the lead. This second pilot is called the "Wingman" because he or she primarily protects the lead by "watching his back." Description The wingman's role is to support aerial combat by making a flight both safer and more capable: amplifying situational awareness, increasing firepower, and allowing more dynamic tactics. "Wingman" is the 3rd episode of the fourth season of the American television drama series ''Person of Interest''. The third season of the Canadian science fiction– fantasy television series '' Sanctuary'', premiered on Syfy in the United States on October 15, 2010 and consists of 20 episodes. ''Wingmen'' is a war novel by American author Ensan Case. It was originally published on November 28, 1979, by Avon Books. The novel follows the lives and the relationship development between Ensign (rank)#United States, Ensign Fred Trusteau and Lieutenant commander (United States), Lieutenant commander Jack Hardigan, two United States Navy fighter pilots who are part of the fictional Fighter aircraft, fighter Squadron (aviation), squadron VF-20, during World War II. After its original publishing, ''Wingmen'' soon went out of print and fell into obscurity. Wingman (or wingmate) is a role that a person may take when a friend needs support with approaching potential romantic partners. People who have a wingman can have more than one wingman. A wingman is someone who is on the "inside" and is used to help someone with intimate relationships. In general, one person's wingman will help them avoid attention from undesirable prospective partners or attract desirable ones, or both. Origin The term originated in combat aviation in various international military aviation communities shortly before and after the advent of fighter jets. Pilots flying in formation, especially when in combat training or in actual aerial combat, refer to the pilot immediately next to them (traditionally on their right, sometimes on either side) as their "wingman" (the man on their wing). Enix was a Japanese video game publishing company founded in September 1975 by Yasuhiro Fukushima. Initially a tabloid publisher named Eidansha Boshu Service Center, in 1982 it ventured into video game publishing for Japanese home computers such as the PC-8800 series, the X1 series, and the FM-7. Fukushima had no programming knowledge and did not employ internal programmers or game designers.
