''Wind from the Icy Country'' is a 1964 Australian television play directed by Patrick Barton and starring Norman Kaye. Premise A German engineer, Ehrbar, who worked in China during the war encounters a Jewish doctor in an isolated Chinese mountain village in Paoshan, in the northwest. Ehrbar breaks down in a car with his companion, Ella, who is fleeing an unhappy marriage. Norman Kaye
Norman James Kaye (17 January 1927 – 28 May 2007) was an Australian actor and musician. He was best known for his roles in the films of director Paul Cox. Early life and education Kaye was born in Melbourne and won a scholarship to study at Geelong Grammar School. His parents were distant, and both died early, his mother in a psychiatric hospital. Musician Kaye's musical abilities were noticed by A. E. Floyd, the organist of St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, who gave him free tuition in recognition of his potential as an organist. Kaye travelled to France to study the organ with Pierre Cochereau at Notre Dame de Paris and he won a Premier Prix for conducting at the Nice Conservatoire. Brian James (actor)
Brian James (5 July 1918 – 2 November 2009) was an Australian radio, stage, television and film actor. Early life, radio and theatre Brian James was born in Melbourne, the son of the Bishop of St. Arnaud and started his career as a teacher at Ivanhoe Grammar School for four years, in 1933 joining the Royal Australian Navy, after which he was demobilised five years later, and decided to pursue a career as an actor, attending Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, making his stage debut in 1947 and he featured in the 1952 J.C. Williamson production of ''Seagulls Over Sorrento''. He would also appear in the 1960 TV production of the play.
