Winaq Politicians
Winaq is a left-wing political party in Guatemala whose most notable member is Rigoberta Menchú, who is ethnically Kʼicheʼ. Its name comes from the Kʼicheʼean word for "people" or "humanity", "winaq". It is a party whose roots are in the indigenous communities of Guatemala. Ideology According to the party's website, In a working paper of a seminar organised by FLACSO Guatemala and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation written in 2007, it was concluded that Winaq had an ambiguous ideology, trying to combine adversarial interest. Later, after committing to an alliance with other left-wing parties, the party developed a more pronounced left-wing perspective with eco-socialist leanings. New Nation Alternative
The New Nation Alternative (''Alternativa Nueva Nación'') was a leftist political party in Guatemala. In the elections held on 9 November 2003, the party won 4.9% of the popular vote and 6 out of 158 seats. In the elections held on 9 September 2007, the party secured 1.35% of the votes in the race for national-list deputies and, save for defections, will have no representation in the 2008-12 Congress. In the presidential election of the same day, its candidate Jorge Ismael Soto Jorge is a Spanish and Portuguese given name. Manuel Ricardo Villacorta Orantes (born 29 March 1959) is a Guatemalan politician, professor and writer. He served as Guatemala's ambassador to Israel from 1999 to 2000, was also a presidential candidate in 2019, where he placed in seventh place with 5.2% of the vote. Early and personal life Villacorta was born on March 29, 1959 in Guatemala City in the bosom of a scholar family. 2019 Guatemalan General Election
General elections were held in Guatemala on 16 June 2019, to elect the President, Congress and local councils. A second round of the presidential elections was held on 11 August 2019, since no candidate won a majority in the first round. Alejandro Giammattei won the election in the second round of voting. 2015 Guatemalan General Election
General elections were held in Guatemala on 6 September 2015 to elect the President and Vice President, all 158 Congress deputies, all 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament, and mayors and councils for all 338 municipalities in the country. Otto Fernando Pérez Molina (born 1 December 1950) is a Guatemalan politician and retired general, who was President of Guatemala from 2012 to 2015.
