Wilmot, Tasmania
Wilmot is a locality and small rural community in the local government area of Kentish in the North West region of Tasmania. It is located about south-west of the town of Devonport. The 2016 census determined a population of 298 for the state suburb of Wilmot. History Wilmot was a Parish name prior to 1900 but no town of that name had been surveyed. A Wilmot post station existed in 1899. The town name was proclaimed in 1903, and Wilmot was gazetted as a locality in 1965. The former locality of Narrawa was incorporated into Wilmot in 2000. The locality was named for Sir John Eardley-Wilmot, 1st Baronet, Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) from 1843 to 1846. The Township of Wilmot is a rural township in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo in southwestern Ontario, Canada. History Archaic and Woodland periods The earliest concrete evidence of human activity within Wilmot dates to around 8,300 years ago, in the Early Archaic period, though some artifacts are thought to be as old as 13,000 years. Early Archaic evidence is in the form of artifacts from the Hunsberger Creek site ( AiHd-83). This site on the upper part of Hunsberger Creek saw occupation during the Early and Middle Archaic periods, as well as the Middle and possibly Late Woodland periods. In one interpretation of the site, it represents a place of significant repeated short-term occupation; namely, a "headwater camp" where mobile hunter-gatherers stopped near the uppermost part of a waterway before possibly returning down the waterway or migrating to another drainage system. Wilmot, Nova Scotia
Wilmot is an unincorporated community located in Annapolis County in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The community takes its name from Wilmot Township, one of the early subdivisions of Annapolis County. The township was named after Montague Wilmot, a colonial governor of Nova Scotia. The township, which included what is now Aylesford, was granted in 1764 to New England Loyalist settlers. In 1768 it had a population of 40; by 1827 it had grown to 2,294. The first major land owner, a magistrate named Philip Richardson, was granted seven lots totaling 2,000 acres (809 ha) in 1777. Ashley County is a rural South Arkansas county with a culture, economy, and history based on timber and agriculture. Created as Arkansas's 52nd county on November 30, 1848, Ashley County has seven incorporated municipalities, including Hamburg, the county seat and Crossett, the most populous city. The county is also the site of numerous unincorporated communities and ghost towns. The county is named for Chester Ashley, a prominent lawyer in the Arkansas Territory and U.S. senator from the state from 1844 to 1848. Wilmot Township is a civil township of Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 878 at the 2010 census. Geography Wilmot Township is located in the southwestern corner of Cheboygan County and is bordered by Charlevoix County to the west and Otsego County to the south. A small portion of the village of Wolverine is in the northeast part of the township. Interstate 75 crosses the southeast corner of the township but has no direct access. Wilmot Township is a township in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 1,204 at the 2010 census. Geography Wilmot Township is located in southeastern Bradford County and is bordered by Albany Township to the west, Terry Township to the northwest, and by Wyalusing Township and Tuscarora Township to the north across the Susquehanna River.
