William Furlong Wise
Rear Admiral William Furlong Wise, (21 August 1784 – 29 April 1844) was a British naval officer. Childhood Wise was born at the family home in Woolston near Kingsbridge, Devon, the son of George Furlong Wise of Woolston and his wife, Jane (née Dacres). His mother was the sister of Vice-Admiral James Richard Dacres (1749–1810) and also of Vice-Admiral Sir Richard Dacres (1761–1837), two connections which would serve him well in his future naval career. Indeed, the name James Richard Dacres appears several times in Wise's lifetime because his uncle James Richard Dacres had a son, also called James Richard Dacres (1788–1853) who served alongside Wise at various times. Early career Wise entered the navy on 7 February 1797 on the frigate under his uncle Richard Dacres, and served, for the most part, with him on the home station, the coast of France, and in the West Indies. William E. Wise (March 15, 1861 – May 5, 1940) was an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball for three seasons from 1882 to 1886, splitting his time between pitcher and the outfield. He played for the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association, the Washington Nationals of the Union Association, and the Washington Nationals of the National League. William Alfred Wise (born July 21, 1923) is an American writer of children's literature. Among his well-known books are ''Christopher Mouse'': ''The Tale of a Small Traveller'' (2004) and ''Ten Sly Piranhas'' (1993). Life and education Born in New York City on July 21, 1923, Wise graduated from Lawrenceville School in 1941 where he was Editor-in-Chief of literary magazine, The Lit, and also wrote for school newspaper, The Lawrence. Wise received a Bachelor’s Degree from Yale University in 1948 and published his first children’s book, ''Jonathan Blake: The Life and Times of a Very Young Man'', in 1956. Willie Wise
Willie M. Wise (born March 3, 1947) is an American former professional basketball player. After a successful ABA tenure, which eventually resulted in him making the ABA All-Time Team, Wise’s NBA career was ended prematurely by a knee injury. Career A 6'6" forward from Drake University, Wise earned a spot on the American Basketball Association's (ABA) Los Angeles (later Utah) Stars in 1969. He would prove to be one of the best all-around players in the league, as he was both a proficient scorer (19.2 points per game during his ABA career) and a highly esteemed defender. Indeed, while playing for the Stars, who won the 1971 ABA Championship, ''Sports Illustrated'' described him as "the best two-way performer in pro basketball". William Bernard "Willy" Wise (born January 29, 1967) is a retired American professional boxer from Onancock, Virginia. Wise has an IBO world title, but is best known for his 1999 upset of Julio Cesar Chavez. Wise was partially reared in Westbury, New York, from where he quickly rose to the top of the international amateur ranks and subsequently launched his professional career. William Wise III (born October 30, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who plays for Eastern Mavericks of the NBL1 Central in Australia. He finished his collegiate career at Dominican College (New York). Early life and college career Wise is a 6'9" forward from Philadelphia. He played high school basketball at Abington Friends School before transferring to The Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey, to finish high school. He played college basketball at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County starting from 2011. After playing 6 total games in his second year Wise decided to transfer to TAMIU in the fall of 2013.
