William Telfer (academic)
The Revd Canon William Telfer (16 January 1886 – 13 January 1968) was an English clergyman and academic, who specialised in early Christian studies. Telfer held various prestigious positions throughout his career, including Dean of Clare College, Cambridge (1921), Ely Professor of Divinity at Cambridge University (1944–1947) and Master of Selwyn College, Cambridge (1947–1956). Telfer was born in Rochester, Kent, the son of a schoolmaster. After graduating from Clare College in 1908, he was ordained and became the Vicar of All Saints Church in Rotherhithe, which was later destroyed by a bomb in 1944. In 1921, Telfer returned to his alma mater as a Fellow. Even after retiring, he continued to write on theological subjects. William Francis Telfer (21 August 1885 – 25 August 1955) was an Australian politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1943 to 1947, representing the seat of Avon. Biography Telfer was born in Gawler, South Australia, to Ruth (née Penna) and George Wright Telfer. He and his father came to Western Australia in 1910, settling in the Wheatbelt town of Merredin. Telfer worked as a storekeeper and farmer, and in 1936 was elected to the Merredin Road Board, of which he would remain a member until 1955. Willie Telfer (footballer, Born 1909)
William Telfer (21 March 1909 – 15 May 1986) was a Scottish footballer who played as a left half for Blantyre Celtic, Motherwell, Airdrieonians (wartime guest), Dumbarton (wartime guest) and Scotland. William Douglas Telfer (26 October 1925 – 11 November 1995) was a Scottish football player and manager. He played as a centre half for St Mirren, Rangers, Queen of the South and Hamilton Academical. He represented Scotland once, in a 1954 British Home Championship match against Wales, and made four appearances for the Scottish Football League XI.
