Sir William Rae, 3rd Baronet
Sir William Rae, 3rd Baronet (14 April 1769 – 19 October 1842), was a Scottish politician and lawyer. Life He was born at Old Assembly Close off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, son of Margaret Stewart, youngest daughter of John Stewart of Blairhall and David Rae, Lord Eskgrove. He was educated at the High School in Edinburgh and studied law at the University of Edinburgh from 1785, qualifying as an advocate in 1791. His first major role was as Sheriff of Orkney and Shetland in 1801, but in 1809 he transferred to an equivalent post as Sheriff of Edinburgh, which he held until 1819. He succeeded his father to the baronetcy in 1815. He was Member of Parliament for Anstruther Burghs, in Fife, from 1819 to 1826, Harwich, Essex, England, from 1827 to 1830, Buteshire in 1830 and from 1833 to 1842, and for Portarlington, Queen's County, Ireland, from 1831 to 1832. William Rae (bishop)
William Rae (died 1376) was a 14th-century bishop of Glasgow. His background is obscure, although it is known that before ascending to the bishopric he was a precentor of the diocese of Glasgow. On the death of John Wishart in 1338, William was elected to the see. His election was confirmed by Pope Benedict XII, who on 11 February 1339 ordered Annibald de Ceccano, bishop of Tusculum, to consecrate William. William was consecrated at Avignon a short while later. Curiously, his predecessor Wishart had been consecrated by the same man, in the same location. Willie Rae
Sir William Rae, , is the former Chief Constable of Strathclyde Police, the largest police force in Scotland. Sir William is married and has two grown up sons. In recognition of his achievements Rae was awarded a knighthood by the Queen, in 2005. Career He joined Dunbarton County Constabulary as a police cadet in 1966 and was appointed as a Constable in 1968. Dunbartonshire Constabulary merged with five other forces into what is now Strathclyde Police in 1975. Sir William was promoted to Sergeant in 1977 and rose swiftly through the ranks throughout the 1980s. In 1996, he became Chief Constable of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary. Glossop is a market town in the Borough of High Peak, Derbyshire, England. It is located east of Manchester, north-west of Sheffield and north of the county town, Matlock. Glossop lies near Derbyshire's borders with Cheshire, Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire. It is between above sea level and is bounded by the Peak District National Park to the south, east and north. William Archibald Rae
William Archibald Rae (May 3, 1875 – May 5, 1943) was a businessman and provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He was born in Thedford, Ontario. Argonaut Company Rae was instrumental in the founding of Grande Prairie, Alberta with his work as secretary-treasure in The Argonaut Company Ltd. The company bought and subdivided land that became the city. He founded the company with his business partner Alphaeus Patterson. Political career Rae ran for a seat in the Alberta Legislature for the first time in the 1913 Alberta general election. He was defeated by his former business partner Alphaeus Patterson in a closely contested three-way race. Patterson retired at the end of his term and Rae ran for the second time in the 1917 Alberta general election, this time winning the Peace River district by a large margin.
