William Ponsonby (British Army Officer)
Major-General Hon. Sir William Ponsonby (13 October 177218 June 1815) was an Anglo-Irish politician and British Army officer who served in the Peninsular War and was killed at the Battle of Waterloo. Early life and education He was the second son of William Ponsonby, who was created Baron Ponsonby of Imokilly in 1806, and Hon. Louisa Molesworth. He was the grandson of politician Hon. John Ponsonby and great-grandson of the 3rd Duke of Devonshire and the 1st Earl of Bessborough. Educated at Kilkenny and Eton, he married Hon. Georgiana FitzRoy, youngest daughter of Charles FitzRoy, 1st Baron Southampton. Together they had five children: *Hon. Knight Commander Of The Order Of The Bath
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I of Great Britain, George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved Bathing#Medieval and early-modern Europe, bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Order (honour), Military Order". Baron Ponsonby Of Imokilly
Baron Ponsonby, of Imokilly in County Cork, also referred to as Baron Ponsonby of Imokilly, in the County of Cork, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1806 for the William Ponsonby, who had previously represented Cork City, Bandonbridge and County Kilkenny in the Irish House of Commons and County Kilkenny in the British House of Commons. A member of the influential Ponsonby family, he was the eldest son of the Honourable John Ponsonby, second son of Brabazon Ponsonby, 1st Earl of Bessborough (see Earl of Bessborough for earlier history of the family). His son, the second Baron, was a prominent diplomat and notably served as Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire and Austria. In 1839 he was created Viscount Ponsonby, of Imokilly in the County of Cork, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. He was childless and the viscountcy became extinct on his death in 1855. Sir William à Court, 1st Baronet
Sir William Pierce Ashe à Court, 1st Baronet (c. 1747 – 22 July 1817) was a British soldier and Member of Parliament (MP). À Court was the son of General William Ashe-à Court and Anne Vernon. He represented Heytesbury in the House of Commons from 1781 to 1790 and again from 1806 to 1807. In 1795 he was created a Baronet, of Heytesbury in the County of Wiltshire. He was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel of the Wiltshire Militia in 1797 and High Sheriff of Wiltshire for 1812. À Court married, firstly, Catherine Bradford, daughter of John Bradford, in 1769. In 1777 Catherine A'Court died in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire; her memorial plaque in Cheltenham's parish church suggests this was due to her having been poisoned with arsenic by a servant. Richard Beadon
Richard Beadon (15 April 1737 – 21 April 1824) was Master of Jesus College, Cambridge 1781–1789 and later Vice-Chancellor of the University, Bishop of Gloucester and Bishop of Bath and Wells. Life Beadon was born at Pinkworthy in Devon, son of the Rev. Robert Beadon, Rector of Oakford. He was educated at Blundell's School and admitted to St John's College, Cambridge in 1754. He was eighth Wrangler and Senior Chancellor's Medallist in 1758. He married Rachel, granddaughter of Bishop Gooch, of Ely, and had one son, Richard. He was also the uncle of Frederick Beadon. Charles Talbot (priest)
Charles Talbot (26 October 1769 – 28 February 1823) was an English churchman, Dean of Exeter from 1802, and Dean of Salisbury from 1809. His parents were the Rev. George Talbot, son of Charles Talbot, 1st Baron Talbot of Hensol, and his wife Anne Bouverie, daughter of Jacob Bouverie, 1st Viscount Folkestone. He became rector of Wimborne in 1794. Talbot married Elizabeth Somerset, daughter of Henry Somerset, 5th Duke of Beaufort and his wife Elizabeth Boscawen. They had 14 children, including: *Frances Cecil (d. 7 Nov 1855), who married Hon. Charles Talbot (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral Sir Charles Talbot KCB (1 November 1801 – 8 August 1876) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, The Nore. Naval career Talbot was the second son of the Rev. Charles Talbot, and Lady Elizabeth Somerset, daughter of Henry Somerset, 5th Duke of Beaufort. He joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1815. Promoted to Captain in 1830, he commanded HMS ''Warspite'', HMS ''Vestal'', HMS ''Maeander'' and then HMS ''Algiers''. He was appointed Commander-in-chief, Queenstown in 1858 and Commander-in-Chief, The Nore in 1864. He presented a stained glass window to All Saints Church, Down Ampney, Gloucestershire in appreciation after his ship survived a storm off Sebastopol in 1854. Frederick Keppel (19 January 1728 – 27 December 1777) was a Church of England clergyman, Bishop of Exeter. Background Keppel was the fifth and fourth surviving son of Willem van Keppel, 2nd Earl of Albemarle and his wife Lady Anne Lennox, daughter of Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, illegitimate son of King Charles II. Charles FitzRoy, 1st Baron Southampton
General Charles FitzRoy, 1st Baron Southampton (25 June 1737 – 21 March 1797) was a British Army officer who served in the Seven Years' War and a politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1759 to 1780. The second son of Lord Augustus FitzRoy, FitzRoy joined the 1st Foot Guards as an ensign in 1752 and was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in 1758. In the following year he fought at the Battle of Minden as an aide de camp, where he was a part of the controversy surrounding Lord George Sackville's slow reaction to orders sent to him. FitzRoy was also present at the Battle of Vellinghausen in 1761.
