William Parks (publisher)
William Parks (May 23, 1699 – April 1, 1750) was an 18th-century printer and journalist in England and Colonial America. He was the first printer in Maryland authorized as the official printer for the colonial government. He published the first newspaper in the Southern American colonies, the ''Maryland Gazette.'' He later became authorized as the official printer for the colonial government of Virginia. Parks was also the publisher and printer of the first official collection of the authentic 1733 set of Virginia's laws, and the first colonial publisher and proprietor of ''The Virginia Gazette'' newspaper. During his lifetime Parks established four new newspapers in the colonies. He also worked with Benjamin Franklin on several projects related to printing, most notably, the establishment of a paper mill in Virginia, the first such mill south of Pennsylvania. William Parks (paleontologist)
William Arthur Parks (11 December 1868 – 3 October 1936) was a Canadian geologist and paleontologist, following in the tradition of Lawrence Lambe. Parks was born in Hamilton, Ontario. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1892, Parks joined the University of Toronto's staff, where he taught geology, paleontology, and mineralogy. He went on to earn a PhD in 1900. He wrote 80 scientific papers in his lifetime. Parks died in Toronto, Ontario, in 1936. William Parks (Alamo Defender)
The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a crucial conflict of the Texas Revolution. In 1835, colonists from the United States joined with Tejanos (Mexicans born in Texas) in putting up armed resistance to the centralization of the Mexican government. President Antonio López de Santa Anna and the government in Mexico City believed the United States had instigated the insurrection with a goal of annexing Texas. In an effort to tamp down on the unrest, martial law was declared and military governor General Martín Perfecto de Cos established headquarters in San Antonio de Béxar, stationing his troops at the Alamo. When the Texian volunteer soldiers gained control of the fortress at the Siege of Béxar, compelling Cos to surrender on December 9, many saw his expulsion to the other side of the Rio Grande as the end of Mexican forces in Texas. William Robert Parks (June 4, 1849 – October 10, 1911) was an American left fielder, pitcher, and manager in Major League Baseball from Easton, Pennsylvania. A native of Easton, Pennsylvania, Parks played for the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia White Stockings, both of the National Association, in 1875. Then, in 1876, he played one game for the National League's Boston Red Caps. He was also manager of the Nationals for the last eight games of the 1875 season, guiding them to a record of 1–7 after they had gone 4–16 under teammate Holly Hollingshead. In 16 games as a pitcher he was 4–8 with 9 complete games in 11 starts and an earned run average of 3.54. In 30 total games played he batted .174 with 6 runs batted in and 13 runs scored. William James Parks (January 1, 1948 – July 22, 2009) was an American football wide receiver in the National Football League for the San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Oilers. He played college football at Long Beach State University. Early years Parks attended Culver City High School, where he played quarterback and defensive back. He moved on to Santa Monica College, where he was moved to wide receiver after suffering a preseason concussion. In 1966, he set a school record with 9 touchdown receptions in a season. In 1967, he transferred to Long Beach State University where he became the school's first All-American. He had his best season as a sophomore, catching 79 passes (second in the nation) for 1,294 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named All-American in 1968 as a junior, but was injured much of his senior year. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played college football at Arizona. He has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles.
