William P. And Rosa Lee Martin Farm
The William P. and Rosa Lee Martin Farm is a historic farm property in rural Searcy County, Arkansas. It contains all but two of the original buildings of a farmstead established in 1922, representing a remarkably complete collection of outbuildings in addition to the main house. Located on County Road 73 (Campbell Road), just south of Arkansas Highway 74 in the eastern part of the county, it includes the house, a barn, garage, workshop, potato house, corn crib, and wellhouse, all of which were built by the Martins, who worked a farm until their deaths in 1971. The buildings have seen generally minor alterations and improvements, a rarity in rural Arkansas where farmsteads of this vintage are often abandoned and demolished. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. Marshall is the largest city in and county seat of Searcy County. It is located in the Ozarks at the foot of the Boston Mountain Range south of America's first National River, the Buffalo National River. Searcy County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 8,195. The county seat is Marshall. The county was formed December 13, 1838, from a portion of Marion County and named for Richard Searcy, the first clerk and judge in the Arkansas Territory. The city of Searcy, Arkansas, some 70 miles away, shares the name despite having never been part of Searcy County. The county is an alcohol prohibition or dry county. Arkansas Highway 74 (AR 74 and Hwy. 74) is a series of state highways of total in Northwest and north central Arkansas and is divided into eight separate sections.
