William O'Callaghan (Irish Army Officer)
Lieutenant General William "Bull" O'Callaghan, BSD ( ga, Liam Ó Céallachgáin; 3 July 1921 – 26 December 2015) was an Irish Army officer. Early life O'Callaghan was born in Buttevant, County Cork, and joined the Irish Defence Forces at age 17 in 1939. Military career O'Callaghan graduated from the Military College at Curragh Camp, County Kildare. He is most notable for being the Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon from 1981 to 1986; a neutral United Nations peacekeeping force during the Lebanese Civil War. O'Callaghan was a County Cork native who had the unique distinction of holding the two most important United Nations appointments in the Middle East during a particularly tumultuous period in the 1970s and 1980s, when he was the Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from February 1981 to May 1986 and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) from April 1978 to June 1979 and again from May 1986 to ...

Born in London, he was the second son of George O'Callaghan, 2nd Viscount Lismore and his wife, Mary Norbury. He was educated at Eton. William O'Callaghan (1881 – 28 January 1967) was an Irish Fine Gael politician. He was the ninth child born to Catherine (née Donovan) and Cornelius O'Callaghan, farmers in Scarragh, Lombardstown, County Cork County Cork ( ga, Contae Chorcaí) is the largest and the southernmost county of Ireland, named after the city of Cork, the state's second-largest city. It is in the province of Munster and the Southern Region. Its largest market towns are .... He married Anna Sheahan and together they had four children. He bought Longueville House, Mallow in 1938. He was a member of Seanad Éireann from 1938 to 1943 and from 1944 to 1961. A farmer, he was first elected to the Seanad in 1938 by the Agricultural Panel. He lost his seat at the 1943 election but was re-elected at the 1944 election. He did not contest the 1961 Seanad election. William Henry O’Callaghan (1868 – 16 January 1946) was an Irish hurler who played as a forward for the Cork senior team. Born in Cork, O'Callaghan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-four when he first linked up with the Cork senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1892 championship.
