William R.W. Murphy (born May 9, 1981) is an American professional baseball left-handed pitcher. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays, with an 0–0 record in the Major Leagues. He has also played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Chiba Lotte Marines being one of the most highly known pitchers in Japan during the 2010 season. Murphy and Yu Darvish were both the top leading Aces in Japan for the 2010 season, yet Murphy being the dominant force for his team, the Chiba Lotte Marines to win the 2010 Japan Series. He played as a shortstop in Major League Baseball for the New York Giants. Murphy served as the head baseball coach at Stanford University (1900–1901), Columbia University (1902), and the United States Naval Academy (1905), compiling a career college baseball record of 24–27–1. William Francis Murphy (May 11, 1885 – February 7, 1950) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the first bishop of the new Diocese of Saginaw in Michigan from 1938 until his death in 1950. Biography Early life William Murphy was born on May 11, 1885, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to William and Mary (née Gibson) Murphy. His parents were Irish immigrants who came to the United States from County Wexford. One of ten children, Murphy was the youngest child and only son; three of his sisters became nuns. He received his early education at the parochial school of St. Augustine's Parish and at Lefevre Institute, both in Kalamazoo. Murphy then studied at St. Jerome's College in Kitchener, Ontario and at Assumption College in Sandwich, Ontario. William Samuel Murphy (12 February 1882 – 29 April 1961) was an Independent Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Portland, Ontario and became a physician. Murphy attended public school at Portland, then secondary school at Athens, Ontario before further studies at Queen's University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine (MD, CM) degrees.
