William More (died 1402)
William More (died 1401/02), was an English merchant and Member of Parliament (MP). More was a London vintner who is known to have been in business as early as 1369. His family background is unknown though he may have been related to Robert More, another prominent vintner. He was elected an alderman of the city in 1382-3, then 1384 until circa 1400. He also held a number of other civic and royal positions, including appointment as a Sheriff for London and Middlesex, and as the Constable of the Staple of Westminster. He was a Member of the Parliament of England for the City of London (Parliament of England constituency), City of London in the Parliaments of 1379, February 1388, January 1390 & November 1390; in the last Parliament he was not the original nominee but was returned at a by-election. Cumberland is a former United Kingdom Parliamentary constituency. It was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of England then of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1832. It was represented by two Knights of the Shire. It was divided between the constituencies of Cumberland East and Cumberland West in 1832. William More (bishop)
William More was appointed Bishop of Colchester to deputise within the Diocese of Ely under the provisions of the Suffragan Bishops Act 1534 in 1536 and held the post until his death in 1541. Educated at Cambridge University. Life He is said to have been educated at both Oxford and Cambridge. He first appears as rector of Bradwell in Essex, having been collated 25 April 1534. On 5 October of the same year he was further collated to the rectory of West Tilbury in the same county, and then held the degree S.T.B. On 20 October 1536 he was consecrated bishop of Colchester as suffragan to the Bishop of Ely. He was a master in chancery at the time. He became abbot of Walden ''in commendam'' at an unknown date. As abbot he presented to the vicarage of Walden on 29 September 1537 and was afterwards vicar there himself till his death. William More (prior)
William More (1472-1559?), prior of Worcester, son of Richard and Ann Peers or Peres, entered the Worcester priory in 1488 at the age of sixteen; was kitchener in 1504, sub-prior under John Wednesbury (1507–18), and was made prior 2 Oct. 1518. He spent large sums on repairs, on plate for the churches upon the monastery's estates, and on books, including printed books for the convent. He was fond of comfort, amusement, and display. A letter from a monk, John Musard, written while in prison, which has been printed by Noake, contains a list of complaints against a certain 'untrue master,' who is clearly identical with More, for one charge is that he made a new mitre, a needless extravagance, and the costs of this mitre are entered in More's diary. Musard complains, too, of the prior's gifts to his relations, of the sale of the monastery's plate, and of neglect of the buildings. Musard had been put in prison by More in 1531. William More (died 1600)
Sir William More (30 January 1520 – 20 July 1600), of Loseley, Surrey, was the son of Sir Christopher More. He was actively involved in local administration and in the enforcement of the Elizabethan religious settlement, and was a member of every Parliament during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He was the owner of property in the Blackfriars in which the first and second Blackfriars theatres were erected. Family William More was the son of Sir Christopher More, King's Remembrancer of the Exchequer (c.1483–16 August 1549), and Margaret Mugge or Mudge, the daughter of Walter Mugge (d.1495) or Mudge of Guildford, Surrey, by his wife, Joan.
