William Hayward (politician)
William J.S. Hayward (1868 – 5 June 1943) was a member of the New Zealand Legislative Council from 22 June 1934 to 21 June 1941, when his term ended. He was appointed by the United–Reform Coalition, United–Reform Coalition Government. Hayward was born in 1868 in Christchurch, the eldest son of William Hayward. He received his education at St Leo's High School. In the early 1890s he competed as a cyclist winning the 25 Mile Championship of New Zealand in 1891. In 1895, he married Annie Harrington. Together with his father, he had interests in transport. His father had set up a coach business that supplied the West Coast, New Zealand, West Coast from Christchurch. Later, he ran coaches within Christchurch that connected with the Christchurch tramway system, trams. Together, they bought Rink Stables in 1893, out of which grew Rink Taxis. Sir Bill Hayward
Sir Edward Waterfield Hayward (10 November 1903 – 13 August 1983) was an Australian businessman, best known for owning and managing John Martin's, a chain of department stores in Adelaide, South Australia, and for instigating the Adelaide Christmas Pageant. Hayward was born in Adelaide, South Australia and was educated at St Peter's College, Adelaide, where he took up polo among other sports in which he excelled. After completing his education, Hayward worked as a jackaroo in New South Wales for several years. He started in the retail sector for the first time in 1929, working for Sydney Snow and Co. Ltd., and moved back to Adelaide in 1931 to join the family business, John Martin's. One of his first jobs at John Martin's was to visit Canada and the United States to gather ideas from department stores in those countries. William Hayward (architect)
William Haywood (died probably in 1823) was an architect who worked in Lincoln, England. His father John who died in 1817 was mayor of Lincoln twice and worked as a mason. Haywood succeeded his father as mayor after his death in 1817. His grandfather, John Hayward (1708–78) was also a mason in Lincoln. William Hayward's great grandfather was Abraham Haywood an architect of Whitchurch, Shropshire who came to Lincoln around 1720. William Haywood succeeded William Lumby as Surveyor to Lincoln Cathedral in 1799 and Edward James Willson followed him in this position in 1823. William Hayward also succeeded William Lumby as Surveyor for the Lincolnshire County County Committee, which had responsibility for Lincoln Castle and the prison.
