William Griffith (born 1480)
William Griffith (1480–1545) of Penrhyn Castle was a Welsh politician. He was knighted at Touraine in 1513 and was Chamberlain of North Wales in 1520. He was with Henry VIII of England at the Sieges of Boulogne (1544–46). Early life He was the son of Sir William Griffith, Chamberlain and Captain of Caernarfon Castle, and Jane Troutbeck. Through his father's second wife, he was the stepson of Elizabeth Grey, the first cousin of John Grey, Lord Ferrers of Groby, who was the first husband of Queen Elizabeth Woodville. As a result, his father was close to the House of Grey, and became a member of King Edward IV's council. He was also knighted by Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales. His grandmother was Margaret Stanley, daughter of Lord Thomas Stanley, who became King of Mann and Lord Chamberlain, and his grandaunt was Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of the first Tudor monarch, Henry VII. Billy Griffith (footballer)
William Charles Griffith (26 December 1880 – 7 May 1949) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Griffith was a full back but was also used as a rover. He was a rover in Essendon's 1901 premiership side and a fullback in their 1911 and 1912 triumphs. William Griffith (botanist)
William Griffith (4 March 1810 – 9 February 1845) was a British doctor, naturalist, and botanist. Griffith's botanical publications are from India and Burma. After a brief stay in Madras, he was assigned as a Civil Surgeon to Tenasserim, Burma, where he studied local plants and made collecting trips to the Barak River valley in Assam. He explored various parts of Burma, traveling the rivers, including the Irrawadi as far as Rangoon. He visited the highlands of Sikkim, and the region of the Himalayas around Shimla. Subsequently, Griffith was appointed as Civil Surgeon in Malacca, where he died of a parasitic liver disease. Biography William was born at Ham on 4 March 1810, the son of Thomas Griffith. William Griffith (1766 – June 7, 1826) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Circuit Court for the Third Circuit. Education and career Born in 1766, in Bound Brook, Province of New Jersey, British America, Griffith read law in 1788. He entered private practice in Burlington, New Jersey from 1789 to 1801. He was a surrogate for Burlington County, New Jersey from 1790 to 1799. He was a member of the Burlington Common Council from 1793 to 1797. Billy Griffith
Stewart Cathie Griffith, (16 June 1914 – 7 April 1993), known as Billy Griffith, was an English cricketer and cricket administrator. He played in three Test matches for England in 1948 and 1949. He played first-class cricket for Cambridge University (1934–1936), Surrey (1934), Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) (1935–1953), Sussex (1937–1954) and England (1948–1949). Life and career Griffith was born in Wandsworth, London, and educated at Dulwich College and Pembroke College, Cambridge. He scored over 1,200 runs during four years in the 1st XI at Dulwich, despite being in the shadow of Hugh Bartlett, and he became a capable wicket-keeper. He won his blue in his second year at Cambridge. He toured Australia and New Zealand with the MCC under Errol Holmes's captaincy in 1935–36. He lost his Cambridge place to Paul Gibb in 1937. It took place in the middle of President George W. Bush's second term in office. All 435 seats of the House were up for election. Those elected served in the 110th United States Congress from January 3, 2007, until January 3, 2009. William Griffith (1686–1715)
William Griffith (c. 1686–1715) of Cefnamwlch, Caernarvonshire, was a Welsh Tory and later Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1708 to 1715. Griffith was the eldest son of John Griffith and his wife Elizabeth Bulkeley, daughter of Robert Bulkeley, 2nd Viscount Bulkeley. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 8 June 1703, aged 16 and was admitted at Inner Temple in 1703. He succeeded to the estate of his father in June 1687. He married Mary Lake, daughter of Sir Bibye Lake, 1st Baronet. Griffith was returned as Tory Member of Parliament for Caernarvon Boroughs at the 1708 general election under an agreement among the leading Tory families in the county. He was High Sheriff of Carnarvonshire for the year 1709 to 1710. He was returned MP for the Boroughs again in 1710.
