Bill Fischer (Australian Footballer)
William Nicholson Fischer (3 October 1883 – 15 October 1917) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was killed in action in Belgium in World War I. Family One of the six children of Henry and Isabelle Fischer, née Mathieson, he was born at Kilmore, Victoria on 3 Oct 1883. He attended Kilmore State School. Football Recruited from Tatura, he played his first and only senior game for Melbourne against Carlton, at the MCG on 29 May 1909 (round nine). Bill Fischer (American Football)
William Anton "Moose" Fischer (March 10, 1927 – January 20, 2017) was an American football Lineman (gridiron football), lineman who played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Cardinals, from 1949 to 1953. He was a first-round pick by the Chicago Cardinals in the 1949 NFL Draft. With the Cardinals, he was invited to three Pro Bowls. He played college football at the University of Notre Dame, where he won two College football national championships in NCAA Division I FBS, national championships, was twice named a consensus College Football All-America Team, All-American in 1947 and 1948, and was awarded the Outland Trophy as the nation's top lineman in 1948. He was the first Mr. Irrelevant to make the Pro Bowl, who was the last pick in the 1948 NFL Draft. William Charles Fischer (October 11, 1930 – October 30, 2018) was an American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1956 to 1964 for the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators / Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Athletics. He later was a longtime pitching coach at the major and minor league levels. Born in Wausau, Wisconsin, Fischer stood 6' (183 cm) tall, weighed 190 pounds (86 kg), and threw and batted right-handed. Rudolf Ivanovich Abel (russian: Рудольф Иванович Абель), real name William August Fisher (11 July 1903 – 15 November 1971), was a Soviet intelligence officer. He adopted his alias when arrested on charges of conspiracy by the FBI in 1957. Fisher was born and grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North of England in the United Kingdom to Russian émigré parents. He moved to Russia in the 1920s, and served in the Soviet military before undertaking foreign service as a radio operator in Soviet intelligence in the late 1920s and early 30s. He later served in an instructional role before taking part in intelligence operations against the Germans during World War II. After the war, he began working for the KGB, which sent him to the United States where he worked as part of a spy ring based in New York City. He is the Jane and Roland Blumberg Centennial Professor of Physics at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is affiliated with the Weinberg theory group.
