William Blair (American Politician)
William Blair (31 July 1820, in Dundonald, Scotland – 13 July 1880, in Waukesha, Wisconsin) was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate three times. First, from 1864 to 1865, second, from 1872 to 1873 and third, from 1876 to 1887. Additionally, he was President of the Waukesha, Wisconsin, Board. His former home, now known as the Sen. William Allen Blair (born December 18, 1965) is an American former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball and current pitching coach for the West Michigan Whitecaps. Playing career Blair played baseball for Morehead State University before the Toronto Blue Jays drafted him in the 11th round of the 1986 amateur draft. He spent four seasons in the Blue Jays minor league system, playing for the St. Catharines Blue Jays (1986), the Dunedin Blue Jays (1987–1988), the Knoxville Smokies (1988), and the Syracuse Chiefs (1989). Blair made his major league debut with the Blue Jays on April 11, 1990, and spent the season with the major league squad. He was traded in the offseason to the Cleveland Indians for Alex Sanchez, and played in 11 games for the Indians that year. William Blair Tennent (4 December 1898 – 1 May 1976), known as Blair Tennent, was a New Zealand politician of the National Party and a cabinet minister. In Palmerston North he was a dentist, and a local body politician. Early life Tennent was born at Greymouth on 4 December 1898 to Elizabeth Blair and her husband, David Tennent. He was dux at Greymouth District High School. Local body politics Tennent was a councillor for Palmerston North City Council from 1933 to 1941. He was Mayor of Palmerston North from 1956 to 1959. William Newsham Blair M.Inst.C.E. (10 August 1841 – 4 May 1891), was a New Zealand engineer and surveyor. He was born in Kilmeny, Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland on 10 August 1841. He was in the service of the Provincial Government of Otago from 1864 to 1865 whereupon he became district engineer in the Public Works Department of New Zealand in 1871, Engineer-in-charge of the Middle Island in 1878, and Assistant Engineer-in-Chief for the colony in 1884. In 1890 Mr. Blair was appointed Engineer-in-chief, and died on 4 May 1891. William McCormick "Bill" Blair Jr. (October 24, 1916 – August 29, 2015) was an American diplomat who served as United States Ambassador to Denmark from 1961 to 1964 and as United States Ambassador to the Philippines from 1964 until 1967. William John Blair (October 13, 1875 – April 24, 1943) was a Canadian engineer, farmer, teacher, soldier surveyor and federal politician from Alberta. Early life William John Blair was born in Embro, Ontario on October 13, 1875 to John Blair, and his wife Ellen Smyth, both of Irish descent. Blair took his post secondary education at Woodstock College and later the University of Toronto where he completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering. He began surveying in 1904 in Ontario and using his knowledge to Steak mining property which he later sold. He married his wife Lottie May Nethercott in 1906 and they had one daughter and one son. He moved his family west to Alberta in 1910 and continued his survey work. William Blair (Australian Footballer)
William Daniel Blair (3 June 1912 – 5 June 1960) was an Australian rules footballer and umpire who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Playing career Blair was an 'oft match-winning defender' and vice-captain for Ouyen Rovers when he was invited to trial by Hawthorn in 1933. He declined the offer but just after the commencement of the 1934 season he was transferred to Geelong as a result of his job. He joined Geelong Second Eighteens at the start of 1935. After a number of good performances Blair was promoted to the seniors for round 10 against North Melbourne, one of several changes to cover a spate of injuries. He was selected again for round 18, Geelong's final match of the season. Blair's last appearance for Geelong was in the losing 1935 Second Eighteens Grand Final side.
