William Barber (cricketer, Born 1881)
William Douglas Barber (17 October 1881 – 26 April 1971) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who played for Nottinghamshire. He was born in Eastwood and died in Nottinghamshire. Barber was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps The King's Royal Rifle Corps was an infantry rifle regiment of the British Army that was originally raised in British North America as the Royal American Regiment during the phase of the Seven Years' War in North America known in the United St ... on 4 May 1901. He served with the battalion in South Africa during the later part of the Second Boer War. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Nottinghamshire. The club's limited overs team is called the Notts Outlaws. The county club was founded in 1841, although teams had played first-class cricket under the Nottinghamshire name since 1835.
