White Witch
Jadis is the main antagonist of '' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'' (1950) and ''The Magician's Nephew'' (1955) in C. S. Lewis's series, ''The Chronicles of Narnia''. She is commonly referred to as the White Witch in ''The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'', as she is the Witch who froze Narnia in the Hundred Years Winter. Some recent editions of the books include brief notes, added by later editors, that describe the cast of characters. As Lewis scholar Peter Schakel points out, the notes' description of Jadis and the Queen of Underland (the main antagonist of ''The Silver Chair'') "states incorrectly that the Queen of Underland is an embodiment of Jadis". White Witch (band)
White Witch was an American hard rock band from Tampa, Florida, United States, that made two albums for Capricorn Records in the early 1970s. Their name was a paean to "white magic", contrary to the "black magic" of groups like Black Sabbath. As the band announced before their shows: "To bring good where there once was evil, to bring love where there once was hate, to bring wisdom where there once was ignorance; this is the power of White Witch". The group was inducted into the Florida Musicians Hall of Fame's Florida Music Honor Roll. History White Witch formed in 1971 in Tampa. ''White Witch'' is the second studio album by the group Andrea True, Andrea True Connection, released in 1977 by Buddah Records. The album spawned two moderate hit singles: "N.Y., You Got Me Dancing" and "What's Your Name, What's Your Number". ''White Witch'' wasn't a commercial success and failed to enter any sales charts. It was the last album released by the group, and the vocalist Andrea True would later release only one solo album in 1980. Background and production After the success of her first album and the gold-certified single "More, More, More", the band began to prepare for their second release. The album production included studio musicians with a new band assembled for the tour, which included future Kiss (band), Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick. ''Hall of the Mountain King'' is the fourth studio album by the American heavy metal band Savatage, released in 1987 under the direction of producer Paul O'Neill. It is their first album produced by O'Neill, who was assigned to the band after the tour in support of ''Fight for the Rock''. O'Neill's influence pushed Savatage to adopt a conceptual progressive metal style beginning with this album. "Prelude to Madness" is an arrangement of Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from the ''Peer Gynt'' suite. Oddly, Grieg is not credited for this song, but for the following title track - which is an original song. The intro of "Prelude to Madness" features keyboards and guitar playing "Mars, the Bringer of War" from Gustav Holst's suite, ''The Planets''. The White Witch is a fictional character who appears in the stories published by DC Comics. Created by E. Nelson Bridwell and Curt Swan, she is usually depicted as a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th and 31st centuries. Her real name is Mysa Nal, although her name was given as Xola Aq in Silver Age Legion stories in '' Adventure Comics''; the revelation that her name was actually Mysa Nal was a later retcon. It was described by Maria Sibylla Merian in her 1705 publication ''Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium,'' and Pieter Cramer provided the formal description of the species in 1776. Elizabeth de Beauchamp Goudge FRSL (24 April 1900 – 1 April 1984) was an English writer of fiction and children's books. She won the Carnegie Medal for British children's books in 1946 for ''The Little White Horse''. Goudge was long a popular author in the UK and the US and regained attention decades later.
