White Rose
The White Rose (german: Weiße Rose, ) was a Nonviolence, non-violent, intellectual German resistance to Nazism, resistance group in Nazi Germany which was led by five students (and one professor) at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, University of Munich: Willi Graf, Kurt Huber, Christoph Probst, Alexander Schmorell, Hans Scholl and Sophie Scholl. The group conducted an anonymous leaflet and graffiti campaign that called for active opposition to the Nazi regime. Their activities started in Munich on 27 June 1942; they ended with the arrest of the core group by the Gestapo on 18 February 1943. They, as well as other members and supporters of the group who carried on distributing the pamphlets, faced show trials by the Nazi People's Court (Germany), People's Court (); many of them were sentenced to death or imprisonment. The White Rose University Consortium is a partnership among three universities in Yorkshire, England consisting of the University of Leeds, the University of Sheffield, and the University of York. History It was formed in 1997 to combine the resources of the universities so they can all benefit. These benefits include collaborative research, business opportunities, industrial partnerships, and joint postgraduate scholarships. The consortium takes its name from the white rose traditionally associated with the House of York. White Rose is a planned railway station between and railway stations on the Huddersfield Line. It was featured in the Government's plans for the railway in November 2017 and in July 2018 further details were revealed as part of the Connecting Leeds Vision with the consultation inviting opinions from the general public. It is anticipated by the developers that Cottingley railway station will close due to the proximity of the two stations. History The planned station will serve the White Rose Centre and the Millshaw Business Park, and its location would be south of railway station. Leeds City Council are considering whether to retain Cottingley station or to close it, when White Rose opens. The White Rose Carbon Capture and Storage project was a proposed oxy-fuel coal-fired power plant near the Drax power station in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. It was proposed in 2012 by Capture Power Limited (in partnership with National Grid). This project would have been the first coal-fired power plant to demonstrate the use of oxy-fuel technology for low-carbon electricity at a competitive cost. The proposed 426 MW plant was expected to send 2 Mt CO2/year to an offshore saline aquifer, achieving 90% capture. The Development Consent Order application submitted to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, now Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, was rejected in April 2016. The White Rose is a group that runs a stickering campaign to distribute disinformation and conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic. Its name is an appropriation of that of the anti-Nazi White Rose group, to which it is unrelated. Stickers distributed by the group include anti-vaccine and anti-mask messages, denials that the COVID-19 pandemic exists, and conspiracy theories about a New World Order. Their tactics have been compared to those of the anti-immigration Hundred-Handers group. The group is organized around a Telegram group that is used to distribute templates for stickers, which followers print out using label printers and post in public places. The stickers in turn contain URLs which lead back to websites controlled by the group, drawing in new members in a feedback process. White Rose is an oil field development project off the coast of Newfoundland (island), Newfoundland. Husky Energy is the operator and 72.5 per cent interest holder in the White Rose oil fields. Discovered in 1984, the White Rose offshore oil field is located in the Jeanne d'Arc Basin 350 kilometres east of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
