"When I'm with You" is a song by the British singer-songwriter Steve Harley, which was released as a non-album single in 1989. It was written and produced by Harley, ex-Cockney Rebel guitarist Jim Cregan and drummer Stuart Elliott. Background After a Christmas tour in 1981, and the odd show between 1983–84, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel would not embark on a tour again until 1989's "The Come Back, All is Forgiven" tour. At the beginning of 1989, before the tour, Harley returned to the studio and recorded six tracks with Jim Cregan, Duncan Mackay and Stuart Elliott, all of whom were in the most successful reincarnation of Cockney Rebel from 1974-1977. The tracks recorded included "When I'm with You", "Dancing on the Telephone", "The Alibi" and "Limbs of Man". Harley hoped the new recordings would help the band gain a record deal. Steve Harley
Steve Harley (born Stephen Malcolm Ronald Nice; 27 February 1951) is an English singer and songwriter, best known as frontman of the rock group Cockney Rebel, with whom he still tours, albeit with frequent and significant personnel changes. Early life Harley was born in 1951 in Deptford, London, the second of five children. His father was a milkman and his mother a semi-professional jazz singer. During the summer of 1953, Harley contracted polio, causing him to spend four years in hospital between the ages of three and 16. He underwent two major surgeries in 1963 and 1966. After recovering from the first operation at the age of 12, Harley was introduced to the poetry of T. S. Eliot and D. H. Lawrence, the prose of John Steinbeck, Virginia Woolf and Ernest Hemingway, and the music of Bob Dylan, which inspired him to a career of words and music. Birmingham Hippodrome
The Birmingham Hippodrome is a theatre situated on Hurst Street in the Chinese Quarter of Birmingham, England. Although best known as the home stage of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, it also hosts a wide variety of other performances including visiting opera and ballet companies, touring West End shows, pantomime and drama. With a regular annual attendance of over 600,000, the Hippodrome is the busiest single theatre in the United Kingdom, and the busiest venue for dance outside London. History The first venue built on the Hippodrome site was a building of assembly rooms in 1895. In 1899 the venue was redesigned by local architect F. W. ''Yes You Can'' is the third studio album by British singer-songwriter Steve Harley. It was released by CTE in Europe in 1992 and by Food For Thought Records in the UK in 1993. ''Yes You Can'' was Harley's first studio album since 1979's '' The Candidate''. It contains songs he wrote and originally recorded in the 1980s alongside newer material. The album was produced by Harley and Matt Butler, except "Rain in Venice" which was produced Mickie Most, Harley and Butler, and "Irresistible" which was produced by Most and Harley. Background After his success with Cockney Rebel in the 1970s, Harley was less active in the music industry during the 1980s. He released the occasional single, some of which became minor hits, and only performed live on a limited basis. "Irresistible" is a song written and recorded by British singer-songwriter Steve Harley. It was released three times as a single; the first being in 1985 as a non-album single under his band's name Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel In 1986, a remixed version of the song was released by Harley as a solo single in the UK, and in 1992, he re-released this version as a single in Europe from his solo album '' Yes You Can''. "Irresistible" was written by Harley and produced by English producer Mickie Most. 1985 version Background "Irresistible" was first performed live at Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel's concert at Camden Palace, London, in December 1984. Traveling Wilburys
The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. Originating from an idea discussed by Harrison and Lynne during the sessions for Harrison's 1987 album '' Cloud Nine'', the band formed in April 1988 after the five members united to record a bonus track for Harrison's next European single. When this collaboration, " Handle with Care", was deemed too good for such a limited release, the group agreed to record a full album, titled '' Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1''.
