Athens Olympic Tennis Centre
The Athens Olympic Tennis Centre is a grouping of 16 tennis courts at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex, in Marousi, Athens, Greece. The centre consists of a main stadium, known as The Main Court, seating 8,600 fans - though only 6,000 seats were made publicly available during the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Paralympics- two semifinal courts, seating 4,300 spectators - though only 3,200 seats were made publicly available during the Olympics - and thirteen side courts, seating 200 observers each. Each of the courts use the DecoTurf cushioned acrylic surface, the same surface as the U.S. Open Grand Slam event. Shraga Weinberg (born 25 March 1966 in Petach Tiqva) is an Israeli wheelchair tennis player. Weinberg was born in 1966, paralyzed in his upper body. He also has bone density abnormalities, which caused him to go through many surgeries in his younger years. For his recreation and rehabilitation, he began practicing disabled sports at the Israel Sports Center for the Disabled. In 2008 he was ranked 8th in the world in wheelchair tennis. In wheelchair tennis, Weinberg was ranked 1st in 2001 for singles' tournaments and in 2003 for couples' tournaments. In the five years prior to the 2004 Summer Paralympics, he was also ranked at the top of the Israeli chart. At the Paralympic Games he competed in singles and lost at the quarter final. Sarah Hunter is a retired Canadian Paralympian in wheelchair tennis. At the Paralympics, she competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics and 2008 Summer Paralympics but did not medal. Outside of the Paralympics, Hunter won the quads division at the 2003 and 2004 Wheelchair Tennis Masters alongside Peter Norfolk. Early life Hunter was born on March 16, 1965, in White Rock, British Columbia. Career Hunter began her sports career as a member of the Canada women's national lacrosse team. She became paralyzed from the waist down after an accident while playing hockey in 1997. A few years later, Hunter started playing wheelchair tennis in 2000. In Canada, she won the Birmingham National Wheelchair Tennis Championships eleven times in singles competitions and seven times in doubles.
